Stunted grain growth?

Maybe I’m imagining things but it appears as if my rye and wheat are much shorter this year then last at the same time. Could earlier hot weather cause that?

Even my crimson clover seems shorter.

It seems to me that PA has been COLDER later than normal this year.

Maybe I’m imagining it all. We have had a few days in the 80’s already.

I wouldnt think 80’s would bother rye, wheat, or clover. We have hit 95 a time or two this year and my wheat, rye, and clover look normal

Take a look at April vs the average. Soil temps were lower much later than normal.

I’m at least a month behind, if not 6 weeks because of winter going into the 15th inning up here. This is my winter wheat/white clover as of last night.

I’ve noticed the same thing in the Catskills. My hunch is cooler weather…and still being hammered by the deer.

I think a cool late winter/early spring retarded growth. I certainly saw the same with grains and clover. The latest coming on that I remember. Actually thought for a while maybe my soils were messed up but as soil temps warmed, plots improved. Same occurred with new yard I planted , very slow growth of grass, thought I was loosing my touch, and I have a reputation to uphold in the community of being able to grow on a side of a rock!

I remember the abnormally warm days instead of the colder days. But it looks like it’s almost equal on warmer and colder than average.
