Rural property and global pandemics

One of the driving forces of this country not shutting down is statistically most Americans cannot come up with 5000$ on an emergency basis. Most are simply in a panic mode as to how to survive financially. Most so far in debt with cars and mortgages i’m not sure how they survive.

This is going to be so rough on small businesses. 1600 people have already been fired here in Charleston (restaurant and tourism industries). I’m going to pay my staff (veterinary clinic) as long as possible because none of them can afford to miss a paycheck.

That's the big challenge. There's going to be delayed demand and destroyed demand. Delayed demand will return when cashflows return for things like repairs, durable goods, and construction. Destroyed demand is going to be in services like eating out, travelinlg, and entertaining. The trick will be keeping the bad debt from the destroyed demand from bubbling back into the system.

The fed is gonna need to pump the banks full of interest free cash and float credit lines until demand can resume. That also means putting cash in pockets for people that won't get it back, before their next month's bills come due. The speed at which this gets done is most important. If congress drags their feet to intentionally cause this destruction in a sick bid to hurt the president, we could get stuck in a multi-year drag to recovery like the aftermath of 9/11.

I'm in the same camp as you Buckly. Today found me digging tree planting holes all day and tomorrow will be the same. Wife Anne and I will skype our friends and family to stay in touch and other than that we will just be alone for a short while.* Our freezers are full and other than a little gas or diesel in a week or two we don't need to leave our property. Everything we need for the next two months is right here. We have been fairly active up to this point but believe that now is the time to stay put.
* We do have a grafting session planned with three friends and would proceed with that if everyone is OK with it. To date There have been zero confirmed cases in our county nor the two bordering counties to us. However our group is composed with at least three high risk people so we probably should consider that.

when I worked for the power company the difference between city and rural were total opposites. In the urban areas people were very upset with no power even at 1-3 days. When we worked the Adirondack s the people said they were fine , they’ve only been out 10 days LOL. One guy said we don’t even call for help until the 12th day.

I know I'm dreaming here.... I feel that this whole thing really exposes everything that is wrong with our country. I think as a country we need to take a hard look at " our side of the street". I feel like when 9/11 hit that there was a moment when we came together that was incredible as a nation but our leadership and political parties completely blew it. I don't want to get into finger pointing cause there is plenty of blame to go around. It would be nice after the dust settles to take a realistic look at those things that need addressing, lay our differences aside and work on fixing it.

Main reason we do what we do. I understand 100% it is a whole lot easier and makes the most sense to help the majority when possible. If they can fix one line that feeds 1000ppl instead of one line that feeds 5ppl. Common sense says fix the first line. We are self sufficient for the most part. My best friend lives in a large suburban area and from what he is describing it breaks my heart. I'm sure there are some heart warming stories but it has also brought out the worse is some people. They're all scared. As for the wealthy it seems they think their money will save them (I hope for them it can). As for the rest of them it's getting unsettling.

My wife is picking up the basic ingredients this afternoon from one of our local mom & pop's restaurant for us to start making bread on a large production scale. We will be giving it out to the elderly and needy families first. We know who they are. If a more affluent family would like to purchase some we will be more than happy to sell it to help recover the cost of ingredients. I knew one day having a commercial kitchen at the house would come in handy one day. Glad I never got rid of the equipment. Even though I'm no longer a chef all of these things come easy to me and will be more than happy to help where needed. We are the problem. So naturally we have to be the solution too.

Hope u guys headed up to Devils Tower. Worth the trip. I’ve ridden the Harley thru all that country.

The day we were up that way the tower was covered in fog and the area around it is closed...lots of fog in different areas

Sad but true. Even after one of the best economic years in recent history most don’t have emergency funds. That needs to change. Maybe Dave Ramsey’s financial Peace series will catch on with the masses.

The biggest thing that hurts this country is how much we have shipped manufacturing out of this country! That is all done in the name of $$$. The global economy and the like is how all of this happens. We talk all about being not being dependent on other countries...yet corporate america is encouraged to look into low cost countries.....WE CANT DO BOTH! The idea of "work" being bad is a message that starts in our educational system and that would need to change as well. Sorry...but we as a nation need to get an AMERICA first mentality.....if things are going to change. I had heard that many of the "life saving" drugs that we use in hospitals today....are generic, and most are made in China. We don't outsource our military munitions to other countries (because it's a matter of national defense).....this Virus is demonstrating it's more than just things that go bang that are needed to protect our nation. This is where our trade agreements are SO important.

First test loaves out of the oven. Letting them cool properly. Then I tear them apart and check to see how everything did. Adjust the recipe accordingly then on to full scale production mode. Honey Oat Whole Wheat.

My wife got laid off today. I just told her to start cooking and baking and we can spread her cheer to the less fortunate. Me, on the other hand, am working a 16 hour shift.

I hate to hear that swat. They furloughed 3500 employees day before yesterday at my job. It hasn't reached my division yet. They have put a hiring freeze in effect though. Seeing people smile with a kind gesture soothes the soul. You can leave a lot of stress in what you do when you do it for good.

Fellas if you are looking for time to invest....get them ozonics machine fired up

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ozones-effectiveness-killing-sars-coronavirus-000000776.html

Old lady thought i was just blowing smoke back when i first bought this. Now watch this bet tonight when i bring the groceries home she'll be throwing the ozonics in the closet to cleanse them haha
I bought a larger unit for the house when I seen how well it did at keeping my camouflage scent free years ago. Anytime one of the kids are sick we run it for a couple hours with the fan circulating while we are away. Come home to a fresh smelling and clean house. Don't know if it works like they claim but it adds to our peace of mind.

By order of the governor as of tonight at 8 pm all non-life-sustaining businesses in PA are ordered to close, including logging, construction, mining, factories, legal, realestate, accounting, education, car and equipment dealers etc. This is where the pain begins folks.

Indiana is not there yet, but all our public schools are now closed through May 1st at least.
