Quapaw Meadows (My 160 Acres)...

A persimmon graft with a "special" scion from brushpile.

A couple sawtooths. This will be their 4th spring. The seedlings were given to me from a friend who ordered them from the state nursery.

A bur oak I started from seed. This will be the little trees 3rd spring.

Plums are hit and miss this year due to the very early spring warm up then a freeze after flower. This patch though is loaded. I mowed around the thicket to maybe pick a few for myself in a week or two.

Wish my pond was this full last duck season. Would have been a much better season. Not complaining because the fishing is pretty good right now. Will get better as the water clears from all the rain.

The dam is loaded with blackberries so I just walk around the pond and fish and eat berries. Most are a week away but there are a few ready for picking if you look hard enough.

This little water hole was flowing over a week ago. Unfortunately it is not holding water. I need to get some bentonite and see if I can plug the hole. It's is on the edge of my bbj plot. I am having trouble finding any locally.

Speaking of the bbj plot I sprayed it Sunday (too early to see any results) but it is loaded with sedge. I know there are sedge specific herbicide but I sprayed the Eagle beans with 2 quarts of gly. We will see how it works for the sedge.

That's about it for today. Work has been very busy with lots of stressful cases. Did you know that veterinarians have the highest suicide rate in the medical profession? Maybe because we perform euthanasia everyday and have easy access to the drugs. Don't worry about me though--I love my job and can't imagine doing anything else. Yes, I get emotional and often cry with my clients when putting their 4 legged family member down. I probably get and give more hugs then just about anyone but sometimes it's just nice to get away from the office and hop on the tractor for several hours. Don't have to think about anything but cutting that grass.

God bless my internet friends and let's help Make America Great Again!

Did a little pond fishing with the girls today for Memorial Day. We had some talks about all the sacrifices that were made for our freedom. My girls understand that sacrifice and I can promise you that I did not raise a couple snowflakes! I feel confident that when they head to college their minds will not be brainwashed. However, it is amazing the difference between the two. You know my oldest, the 16 year old that spent over 60 hours in a deer stand during out 2 week season before finally connecting. The girls loves the outdoors. Going to take a pretty high bride price for me to let this one go.

Well, I love my little one. Apple of my eye but sitting in a boat just can't compete with the I-phone. I might have to pay a steep dowry for this one:mad:

After fishing of course I have to check the cams to see what's going on at the 160
Deer are enjoying the clover and chicory right now. Lots of young tender growth. Most pics are late evening. Very few morning pics.

Starting to see some good bone growth.

Looks to be a decent buck in the background.

Still anxious to meet my friend. Getting some late evening pics of him. Might need to do a late evening hunt.

Hope all had a Blessed Memorial Day

Todd...A fishing pond is in my future. Had pond site flagged this time last year when I had big equipment in to clean up after logging but at the last minute decided not to pull the trigger. Always enjoy catching up on your thread.

X2 I've had "plans" for one since I bought the place. Discovered a runoff this past spring while clearing a path through part of my property. It's the perfect feeder for a pond, just need to scrape up the time and get a capable machine dropped off for a few days. Might be a project during a dry spell this summer.

What a paradise in OK you have Doc. Great pond. Loved the girl pics. I know mine are completely different also and I just loved the second pic with the I phone. Almost like shes saying "Whaaattt??". Good job.

Same here I have one daughter that shoveled 4 barrels of corn yesterday and the other one hunts but has to have a camo bow in her hair

Darn persimmon grafts are taking off. I pruned several of the scions to single leaders but I have found that if I prune them when they are this size I get less force on the graft union and less breakage at the union. This is the first year of grafting that I did not wrap the scion in parafilm tape. It didn't matter as I had only 1 graft not take. I didn't graft any of mine this year but several different varieties that brush sent me and one of Fish's dad's scions.

Lots of beautiful wildflowers blooming right now which draws in lots of bees and butterflies. If anyone can tell me the name of this wildflower I would appreciate it.

I mowed about a third of my clover/chicory plot 10 days ago and decided today to mow the rest of it. Chicory was bolting and sending up lots of flowers so I did leave a few strips for the pollinators.

I took a pic after mowing but can't find it on the phone.
The deer are destroying the soybeans. I guess I have increased the deer numbers to a point that 2 acres of eagle beans isn't going to cut it--I'm happy to have that problem.

Just a week ago there was no difference between the exclusion cage and the plot.

I sprayed my main plot with Poast plus today. Used 2 pints for the 1.2 acre plot. The clover was getting invaded with some Johnson Grass. JG is a constant battle at my place. It's not near as thick as my first years of plotting but still pops up every year.

Ten days ago I sprayed around some persimmon trees and pear trees that were getting invaded by JG. My just of Poast Plus is about 12 years old so I didn't know if it had lost some effectiveness but I wanted to use it anyway. Guess it has a longer shelf life than 12 years because the JG is taking a beating.

Sorry for the crummy pics. My phone crashed on me last week and so I put the SIM card in a 6 year old Iphone until I get my new phone. What a difference a few years makes with technology.

take care and God Bless
