Good luck to all of you. We had this beautiful cold front blow across Illinois and of course I am too busy to hunt. And to add insult to injury looks like temps back in the 80s for the weekend.
Will have a few stands full of kids tomorrow AM as my son and one or two of his friends open youth rifle season on our place. This will be our first Opening Day on our new property!! Hopefully there will be MANY more to come!! I'll probably climb up in a lockon with my bow and wait for a BOOM!!!
We didn't see any deer from the stand on the morning hunt...a couple seen headed to the house. Sitting on a food plot this pm...no doubt we'll see deer, but will they be in range?
First time in a tree since my doe on opening weekend. Checked a couple of cans real quick and decided to head to the acorns. Covered up in turkeys right now. Still plenty of light left!
I am in the most stealth stand I have. I packed this ladder stand up a nearly 75 degree slope many years ago and put it in a multi trunked maple tree. I have only hunted it 3 times since I placed it. It is on a flat bench 3/4 way up a huge ridge. Pictures don't do this justice but from the ground you can see less than 15 yards. Wind is blowing my scent out over the huge hollow and there is no way a deer up here could smell me. No ground scent either because as soon as you crest this ridge my stand is the first tree and deer don't typically travel between this tree and the ridge...
This is the hollow I came up out of that the ranch road runs at the bottom of...
This is my view...
This is a much better morning spot but sitting it tonight to see what I need to work on here. Haven't even been to this spot in over 3 years. Rubs and scrapes plentiful in here so will probably be real good week of muzzleloader...
