House and Habitat build thread:

Lightning and thunder all night! Very little actual rain, slid just east of us. Looks like it's going to go north of you?.?

Been dodging tornadoes all afternoon. Some have been close but nothing big and no real damage yet. Hopefully all goes well for people in the storms tonight.

Last night we got a cool show of strange lights in the sky. I've got ideas but can't explain everything we saw.

The tornado that was close to the house (A couple of miles, but directly in the path. Lucky it lifted before getting to the place) left grass in the power lines, and damaged some pretty strong hedge tress:

Those tornados can pack a punch. Seen my fair share of damage they can inflict. Glad your place came out ok. Weird fall weather.

Did everything end up ok over by you?
Turned out fine but there was real potential for disaster. Neighbor north of us got 6in of rain last night which is amazing considering how much we've had lately.

What about your place, everything ok?

So are you seeing a lot of browsing on your grocery store beans? Wondering what the deer preference is? Could be a good fall crop in you get pods in 60 days!

There are no beans left. They didnt seem to prefer any over the other, they were all devoured quickly. I could probably find a plant or two if I looked hard but the way I did it this yr just provided candy.

Habitat work day. Fired up the chainsaw and cut hedge and locust. Treated the stumps and did a lot of hauling. I don't mind hedge except that it needs controlled, otherwise it does have cover and browse value. Locust is a different story! Not much use for it and I hate working with it.

Many of my favorite places to bowhunt do not have suitable trees for a stand. I've taken to hunting from the ground, which is working well for me and opens up a lot land previously unavailable.
Here are a couple of areas that I hunt:

And the ground blinds at the locations. Some of the brush I hauled today ended up at these sites.
The rock ledge makes a great backrest.

This one has a great view...

Habitat improvement encompasses all species so I try to notice what's on the place, or migrating through. Today a found what looks like (to my untrained eye) a very old turtle. I snapped a couple of pics and think I now have it id'd as a three-toed box turtle. Maybe not a giant buck, but still cool.

Always enjoy catching up on your thread catscratch. Such different country out there compared to the southeast.
