Geo in Co

Thanks Brad, there are lunker browns in this stretch of Williams Creek this time of year. They migrate up out of the Piedra for the warmer water flowing off of the surface of Williams Reservoir.

Right on cutman, I have a 4 1/2 lb Truper rapid splitting maul of similar design.

G
Hope you get one.

No, not a darned fish yesterday.

I'm getting a bit discouraged with my thumb rehab, after a week the pressure and swelling has yet to subside

draining constantly.

Before I went fishing I figured that I would swing the sledge for a while. Now I really have a sore hand with carpal tunnel pain and numbness up through my fingers. I give lakngulf, I'm heading for town to get some gas for the splitter.

So I decided that the log splitter was pretty handy but I had to put things on hold with my hand swollen up in pain.

I went to the hospital on Thursday to have my hand checked out, negative for infection or broken bones. With my hand protected in a splint I figured what would it hurt to finish my wood pile on Saturday and Sunday? 4 1/2 cords measured by volume and I have never felt more/worse, continuous pain from the tips of my fingers up through my scapula all last night. I'll never learn.

Speaking of which, on our morning walk, we heard a thirty pound squirrel scurrying up a tree. I investigated, made visual, and promptly gathered Tank up to continue our walk. I dropped Tank at home, grabbed the camera, and circled back around to find Momma at about thirty-forty paces.

When she stood up and started talking to me I said bye bye.

This was my first ever actual bear encounter in the wild. She looked to be a good sized bear.

Good eye cutman, it does look like another chunk of fur between the one cub and the trunk, blocking out the sky behind.

When I was hunting the hills around your house several years ago, I had a bear come fairly close, I decided to take a pic. It was a little dark in the timber, and the camera flashed. The bear decided to investigate, and come a little closer, I took another pic. When it decided to come even closer, I waved my arms and yelled. I don't know which of us was more scared!

I feel your pain. I cut two good sized oaks down on Saturday and got both all cut down to size. Took most of Sunday off just doing a little mowing and planting a couple of trees, then split for a couple of hours yesterday. I'm getting too old for this....

Jason I hope that your hand doesn't feel like mine, it is screwed and keeps getting bigger. I'm dreading another sleepless night like the last two. I'm currently contemplating going to the flower store and getting some medicine but I really need some medical heroin.

Great pictures! Really wishing I could drop work and wade into a trout stream right now.....soon.

Thanks weekender, I would be wading right now if I could hold my fishing pole.

My first impulse with that draining sore and swelling is infection and danger of a staph. Hope they put you on antibiotics, and /or steroid, may want second opinion, not sure I'm buying first diagnosis. And I've had that carpal injury years ago, not fun I know.
Anyways, loved the bear encounter. Mama and cubs bad combo sometimes. Bears move when they are ready in my experience. They just feel if you want to push the issue, bring it. Without cubs she would've been long gone. And maybe she smelled your bloody puss filled thumb and was thinking easy meal. Lol . Get well friend.

Luckily my hand isn't like yours. That looks gross and I agree with dogrr, maybe another opinion is needed. I'm just full of arthritis and bad joints from too much basketball back in the day and long days of hard work and me don't get along well anymore.

As always, I really enjoy the pictures of God’s country! Rest that thumb George or you’ll risk far more than your wood splitting chores. Been there, done that.

Thanks Friends, my thumb was stiff but not in pain and the juice ran clear. That thumb injury did however play a role in the injury of my bear paw hanging at the end of my chicken wing. The pain quotient has peaked and is heading in the right direction and I expect the inflammation to subside in the next few days. I have a follow up appointment today at two and the Doctor probably won't be very happy with me.

Our hikes through bear country seem to be more adventurous

The DNA results are in, my 100lb, six month old 1/2 mastiff puppy is really up to 3/4 boxer. Can anyone else hear that $90 flushing down the toilet?

Geo, what part of Colorado are you in. I'm headed towards a spot near Gunnison to goof and fish a little...

Hope that hand heals soon!

Cat, I am in Pagosa Springs, sw CO, 60 east of Durango.

We love the Gunnison River. I have been down in to the Black Canyon a few times from Warner Point on the south rim, an amazing place with amazing rainbows.

Doctor Web and Nurses were quite impressed with my edema and ready to start me on therapy pronto. I negotiated some more healing time and he gave me till Monday to make a fist. They put the fear in me. I started my own therapy on my stiff thumb.

Looks like we will be passing just north of you in an hour or two.
Just ask doc to give ya shot right in the middle of that hand. It'll heal up in a jiffy.

I agree, thanks for the update. If you've never been go to the monument and peek over the edge.

Gunnison is right near 85 miles magnetic north from pagosa, about a seven hour drive for reference.
