The fuyu are non-astringent, so I believe they have to be picked
 
Native I checked out blue hills, thank you its a great site. I am growing an enterprise apple which is a little shorter of a drop time but right in line with yates it seems while being more known up here in the north east. I plan to graft some trimmed branches this spring to a feral tree that drops most of its apples right at the beginning of bow hoping to extend the draw
 
I’m in Mississippi. I was told apple trees don’t do well to stick with crabapples

My farm is in Mississippi and I do find apples much more challenging than pears, crabapples, or chestnuts. Variety selection is critical and even with good adapted disease resistant varieties, fireblight is sometimes an issue. I have several apple trees but lately I have focused more on other types of fruit trees, including persimmons.

Yes. We have pears already. Going to plant persimmons and honey locusts
