Nice deer! Looks like the big old four pointer on your property which definitely would be a shooter here may get yet another pass, early season at least. It would be difficult to use a tag on anything else knowing a 4 1/2 year old deer like Busters Boy could show at any moment.

I don't think I can shoot that 4 point in Bow - I count 8 bucks on cam - 8 points or better - and a huge 7 point and a shooter tall 6 point -
Boy I hope to at least see Bustersboy on a hunt - and I don;t care who in our group takes him - I just hope its one of us.

All the deer are really loving that Rye already - better than I remember them liking it to be honest - I see some nice red clover already getting established under the rye too. Historically we leave the high section of this field fallow because it doesn't grow well - but I'm pretty encouraged after 10 years mowing only.
Here's what we call Piebald's Posse - for the last 5 years - Patches travels with her extended family - More than once, she's had some family fall next to her in various seasons! She's always liked this corner of the field - I'm not surprised to see her here!

Here's that big 7 point out of velvet (the cemetery buck) - he and Bustersboy are on the top of the hit list -

Yep - he's bigger than My best buck - also a 10point - but mine doesn't have a 4"+ G4. I think Busters-Boy will lose some points on symmetry or he'd push 130 I bet.

Bow season opened in NY on 10-1. Opening weekend was hot - in the 70s - but we did have a couple frosty mornings too.
Next weekend the leaves should be getting a bit more colorful.

Thank you! I take a lot of pictures, I luck into a good one now and again. Its important for me to try to capture the property in the best light I can, and I enjoy looking back at the seasons and back years and years! - I have some pictures from 30+ years ago that I took, and I love comparing year on year, I always have a camera with me at the farm.

Well most of the bucks I know we've seen now out of velvet. Three of the bucks are legit heavy - and real trophy deer for our program - another 6 or 7 are shooters as we see it.
Alex is a very interesting buck - the last two years he didn't show up on camera until Fall, and well into season. I've never seen him in velvet and I have shed antlers from him from the last two years. True to form he showed up again last week - and he's a lot what we expected. He's 4.5 years old.
The Cemetery buck we've not Identified him from a past yet - but I expect that he's someone we know. He is a 7 point and appears to be at least 4.5 and could be older. He really packed on the weight over the last month!
10-18 I think I've ID'd the cemetery Buck as The Heavy 6 point from last year (actually was also a 7 point - but I couldn't always see G3 on the right side). He was heavy last year too but his rack was small. If this is him he jumped a lot - but i think the Left Brow is the same and the frame as well.
And Bustersboy we havent seen him since 9/22 -so we expect he's but on some serious weight too - we know he's 4.5 years old. We hope to get another picture or two of him!
I'll share the others later - but these have become the three top goal bucks- and 7 years of passing bucks,- by most of us on three properties a little over a square mile, have finally paid off with some known 4.5 year olds for the 1st time

We took our second doe of the bow season on Friday night - A short blood trail and another for the pole -
It was cool enough to hang her overnight - but we had to get right on her in the morning after a short sit Saturday. So we quartered and got her on ice - and out of habit I kept some deer tallow for the birds - probably not the smartest thing since it was going to the 70's on Sunday - but I did.
So Sunday morning - we are making breakfast and we had a visitor at the cabin. A full grown male fisher, was hungrier than shy and really didn't care that we were in the cabin 15 yds away with the door wide open. He boldly came in and found that deer fat and took it away. He came back 4 times, and allowed us to get a camera on a tripod even.
Was really cool - we'd been seeing them on occasion - we'd heard that they moved into to area when the porcupines expanded into the area within the last 10 years or so. We get them usually as blurry fuzzes on trail cams - but sometimes well enough - so it was a real treat to see one up close and multiple times - here's some pics I took this morning - I think This Fisher knew all about past years of tallow hanging for the birds~

Our #1 showed up again on 10-24, 1st time we've seen him in a month - glad to see him even if it is at night. Some of the 2.5 year olds are showing up with broken tines already -

I overseeded a couple of the thinner bean plots in Sept with Rye and Oats - I'm glad I did now - gave these plots some new life this fall.

I've not updated in a while - hunting season has had its ups and downs. While I'm not done hunting yet - I think I can say for us it was successful. Me personally, its been real good, best in 5 years. I think I passed more bucks last year - but this year I've passed almost as many as well. In Bow season I never had a legitimate opportunity to take a goal buck, that was disappointing because they were around. I took two does happily as I passed young bucks.
In gun season - it took me until the third Saturday - but I finally put a tag on a buck I knew well - The Cemetery Buck.
by October 10th he was a real hog of a deer as seen here - and at 3.5 years old, he was very elusive.
I've not pulled his jaw yet - but I think 3.5 is right - possibly
4.5 but probably not.
He was basically GONE in bow season - just a couple night pics. As were a lot of out goal bucks - some have been gone since.
When I finally got a shot at this buck - he only dressed out at 135 lbs and had zero fat anywhere. He probably lost muscle weight as well - he was just a fraction of where he was 7 weeks earlier - but still a great buck and one to be proud of!
It had been a while since I tagged a buck and I got to say - pulling the trigger felt real real good! Very gratifying to take a buck you set your sights on early.
