Farm and Ranch life

Rusty, good video as always. I came home from turkey hunting to find five inches of rain in the gauge on my lease so I'm set back until it dries up a bit. I'm chomping the bit to get finished.

Brings back memories. When I was a kid, our family would butcher 60-70 chickens at a time. Dad built a chicken plucker that would pluck the feathers off in about 30 seconds. He was McGuiver before there was one! All of us 6 kids had a job to do, we had an assembly line, it was certainly not OSHA approved, haha. The chicken I buy today tastes nothing like the stuff we use to raise on the farm. Good memories.

Hey Baker,

Just watched your garden video. One question, how do you keep all the critters out? I believe I did not see any fences. At my house I had to build a wall to keep them out.

Hope the watch was worth the time. Excepting the late night armadillo digging raid and mocking birds eating my blue berries I don't have critter problems. The garden is in my yard only 30 yards or so from my house so that plus 2 dogs and 2 cats and me roaming around all the time seems to control things.

The fruit orchard scattered around the yard is another story. Squirrels, birds, coons, possums all have their run on the fruit. I have to get up early to compete. So my strategy has been to overwhelm them with quantity.

I'm in! I don't care what we call it but there should be an annual meeting where members meet in person... probably should coincide with the opening of dove season. In the spirit of the topic there should also be a feast of naturally living/grown plants and animals.

Had hoped to post video footage of velvet bucks before shedding but so far nothing but heat, mosquitos and bugs. So thought I would start posting a few pics recognizing my poor performance with video camera.IMG_0012.jpegIMG_0068.jpeg
