Commercial Food Plot...

I walk it out and I keep that bucket low, low, low! I have run over some pretty rough stuff with the worst being a small block Chevy block and gotten into wire many times...

I've been asked to do some mowing for other people. What are average rates per acre to bush hog a field?

Thanks for the pic. Nice tractor, the right color too !:D I have a chisel plow almost exactly like that one that I got in a trade but I’ve never used it. Probably be good in a new plot to get roots to the top.

Yea, the old tractor has taken some abuse over the past few years. Taillight in left fender is missing now and a few trees have fell on us including 1 that I thought was the end of me...here is a more recent pic with my 3 yr old Brushhog....

Well...hence the reason most brushhogging here is done by the hour....you could be mowing this....

Or this...and sometimes on the same property...

Going rate here is $10 hr per foot of equipment so a 6 foot hog brings $60 hr...

2 acres in stuff like this takes about an hour...

And looks like this when done...

Using it in a manner other than as directed by the label, for pay, isn’t something I’d personally advertise. Not saying anyone here is doing so. Just a word to the wise.
Turkish, 2 quarts acre...you can use as much or as little water with that as you want...first commercial property I have ever sprayed on is the 1 in this post. Everything else I have ever sprayed I own myself - fact!

Here is another way I am gonna get in trouble...watched it on OETA television. Show is called outdoor Oklahoma... hatchet, spray bottle, straight GLY = dead trees! Killed a many on my 2 properties...

Technically correct, perhaps. It isn't the rate of application, but the application for pay. But, then, it would seem like there's an assumption here about the lack of a commercial applicator's license. It may or may not be true. Would you have assumed the same about me if I would have posted such a comment?

I do know a person who mows lawns who did a little work with gly. It seems a government regulator was in the vicinity and saw this. The person I know was checked. He wan't licensed for commercial application and got fined $250.

It's not malicious and serves as a reminder of the responsibilities we face when using herbicides and other pesticides.

Thanks for sharing. That sounds like a fair rate for everybody involved. Charging by width of equipment is a great idea that I didn't consider. And if I'd buy that 15' bush hog I've been eyeing the rates would jump drastically!

Yes. A buddy of mine in lawn care sprayed some gly for a client at her request in a chain link fence. Other side of the fence was an "organic" kind of guy and called a report in on him. He ended up being fined $1200 for that incident. He now has an applicator's license.

I tried to side step any assumptions, perhaps unsuccessfully.

Any updates on this plot?
Not yet...the owner is supposed to get by there in the next couple of days to let me know how it looks. I know the worst thing possible happened. A few days after I put it in a decent little .5” rain hit it and then it got hot in the 90’s for almost 2 weeks before another rain hit that area...if it didn’t take I will reseed it...

Crap, I planted on Aug. 26 and we got half an inch of rain on the 27th. Record temps for like 9 straight days after that--twice going over 100--and mine hung in there. Then it rained 2.5" on Sept 13 then nothing but heat and low humidity since. It's struggling, but there.

A lot less rocks than I expected. I'm used to fall seeded plots germinating well with or without rain as we get a lot of foggy humid nights and mornings in September - also - since you tilled - if it were central NY - you'd be set up.

Thanks for update. It's always nice to see the experience from the landowner perspective on a first ever foodplot. I noticed your general area got some needed rain the past few days which should help.

Okie....I planted on September 7th and got a half inch of rain about a week after planting and didn't get much germination but this week I got 3 1/2" rain and all of it is up now, so hopefully your planting will do just fine. I saw on the radar that in your general area you received some good rain also.. On a side note acorns are dropping good here.

I am on our deer lease in a stand with very spotty service. The owner texted me some pictures I believe he took the 27th of September that I will have to post when I get home because they won’t load from here...I have not seen it in person...
