Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake

He was hanging around the corn fields I have been picking. Based on the number of field rats and mice I’ve seen in the area, he doesn’t have to look very far for a meal.

These are very rare snakes, and seeing this one today was the highlight of my summer on the farm.

Sorry, but I dislike those ugly things more than about anything else that I can think of. Just not much that I can find to like about them. Im very glad that we don't have any around here.

My brother has one that hangs out by a large stump down in Florida. Blends right in if you’re not looking for it. Creeps me out. No thanks to any rattlesnake. I didn’t know they were rare.

Cutman - No diamondbacks in my neck of the woods but plenty of timber rattlers, copperheads and water moccasins. Oddly enough, in 10 years, I've seen one poisonous snake on my place - a copperhead. Nary a timber rattler or water moccasin. With a good size wetland area full of what looks to be snake infested habitat I'm surprised that I haven't encountered snakes. Plenty of king snakes and black snakes encountered over the years. I wonder if pigs eat snakes.

That is a neat encounter. For me at the snake farm such encounters aren't so rare.

I had two copperheads hanging behind my 100 yard target this week.







Tank found two timbers yesterday. Getting pretty close to home, the first one got relocated up on to Rattlesnake Ridge.







The second one I had to wrestle out of a pile of galvy scrap and wasn't so lucky.

I read an article a while back from DNR saying copperhead numbers had increased in more urban areas because people were killing and running over black snakes. I have several black snakes at the farm and I let them be. Last thing I want hanging around is copperheads.

I guess these are some of the very few things I can say positive about living further north. Nothing like these guys slithering around my property. Garter snakes and thats it!

NO THANKS!!!!! I live in timber rattler area. Only ever seen two in my life and thats two to many. Two things I hate are snakes (any snake) and anything beside me in the tree I am in!!!! Not sure why about the tree thing but we used to live in a house where snakes would get in and live under the stove.

My uncle used to go to the rattlesnake roundups in South Georgia before eco-turds ruined them. Man they used to catch some BIG diamondbacks.

I am just glad my area of NYS has no poisonous snakes and no large snakes, but I did get stung or bit by something just over a week ago on my left calf and it hurt like no other bite or sting I have ever felt. By the next day I had trouble walking and that continued for a couple of more days. I am not sure if it was a bee/wasp or a giant fly, like a horse fly but I got hit threes times including in the chest through my shirt, I am actually leery of going back to the immediate area.

I’ll accept those who post opinions different than mine on religion, sex, politics , food plotting. But I will not accept people posting pics of snakes. I’m off to find a Andy Tifa forum that doesn’t show such nonsense and start a peaceful protest agin snakes.
And yes Black snakes will eat Coppers and Rattlers whole. Best to keep them around.
