B118 in the South

Think I've mentioned this before but I've become concerned about B118 rootstocks in the South--at least those from northern sources. I have seven trees now that grew extremely well on those stocks for three years then have died in their fourth. Lost one here at home this year. Went out awhile ago and pulled on it and it came right up. Roots were dead and snapped right out. Same has happened to the other six up at the farm.

I'm sure I've asked but are they planted in sandy soil or a heavier soil?

Here's a picture. This is the roots. This tree was 8 feet tall and bloomed this year. It tried to set fruit but I pinched them off.

Now that you mention it I think we did have that conversation. This one was in more of a red clay soil. The ones at the farm in loam.

I know b118 is more susceptible to root rot which is what I think you have there. I bet you would be better off with m111 or anatovonka

LLC, sorry to hear about your B118 rootstock. I've had similar issues with M111 at my farm. That's why I switched to B118. How do your trees on anatovka look?
