I guess since we didn't have an "offical" 2019 turkey flop report I'll just add to this one. We have had a great season. I tagged out already. My 9 year old son has shot 2. My little girl been bugging me about taking her since her brother shot his first turkey when he was 6. Well after a little practice after church with her brother's gun off we went. It's not a long story. Birds work almost as close to perfect as you can get. It was a quick hunt that end with 1 shot and 2 flops. She's hooked now and can't wait until deer season.

This year has been a record year for us. I've mainly come to the conclusion I might as well kill these birds just to keep my neighbor from crossing the line and killing them. Considering all of the time, effort, trapping and money we spend growing these things. Seriously though we've probably got a little carried away from previous year's plans. All of the birds I killed this year were only killed because I heard my neighbor locating them or trying to call them up to his 7 acres of pine thickets. Call me what you want. But I refuse to share with this particular neighbor especially after him boogering some birds we had coming in on a string during our annual Wounded Warrior Hunt.

I struck out this year. I was thinking about upgrading and getting a new turkey gun this fall, but it would have been an expensive paper weight. Guess my old gun will work just fine if I rarely or never need to use it.
Now I’m looking at a sporting clays or trap gun. Clay pigeons tend to be less wary around my parts....
I’m looking hard at the Fabarm L4S series. Beautiful guns, I haven’t read a bad thing about them.

I think guns really come down to fit and feel which is all personal so my two cents is probably worth just that but I sure like my Browning Citori CX crossover O/U. Off the rack it fit and felt great no work required, does what I need it to do and breaks clays not the bank.

Agree its all about fit. I shoot sporting clays and skeet with a Browning XT (yes it's a trap gun but I'm not much of a trap shooter). Being a trap gun, it shoots high which allows me to float the bird for skeet or SCs which means I can see the clay better.

Don't give up on the turkeys just yet, there's always next year. I got a new gun last year and felt the same way, missed one and didn't shoot a bird. Then this year it all came together. A clay bird still won't get your blood pumping like a real live gobbler coming in and no matter how much seasoning you put on them they don't taste as good either.

You can’t beat it with a stick. Free shipping too. And the turkeys don’t really mind it’s not camo. I like the 2’s better than the new 3’s. The 3’s had a lot of patterning issues, a quick search will show a lot of discussion about that. A Carlson choke and some Winchester longboard xrs will make quick work of those thunder chickens.

These were a DU buy for Reeds, they bought a ton of them, hence the $1099 price on a new SBE 2 with chokes. Just like Henry Ford’s Model T’s you can have it in any color so long as it’s black.

Nice, but kind of expensive, compared to the 3.5" supermag turkeygun with red dot that I got for half that. The shorter barrel and pistol grip are very comfortable when scrunched up against a tree calling in a bird. But semiautomatic is indispensible when shooting a double.

If you want a lightweight gun that is relatively inexpensive and deadly go with a Weatherby SA459 20 ga. This is all I’ve used the last three years. There is really no need to carry a heavy 12 ga around anymore using TSS shells.

I have a SBE 1 that shoots waaay different POA vs POI. And I’ve heard Benelli in general has a bad reputation for that specifically. Pretty lame for such an expensive line of firearms.

I really only heard widespread complaints on the SBE 3’s. A lot of 100/0 patterns, poi a foot higher than poa. Randy Wakeman wrote an article about it suggesting that the new comfortech stocks (designed to soften recoil) were the issue. Whether a 1,2 or 3 I wouldn’t be a happy camper if I spent that much on a gun and it was shooting 90+ high. Ive had two SBE’s though and both have shot great, and I don’t think there’s a more reliable auto out there.

Those are sweet guns, no doubt. I doubt you’d notice the extra 0.55lbs between an 12 gauge sbe 2 and the Weatherby 20 gauge though. I wanted a gun to pull double duty waterfowling and turkey hunting since I can only pull the trigger once a turkey season. If I could have a dedicated turkey gun I’d go for the pistol grip too though.

I was raised on Remington shotguns and still have my first 870. Love those guns. I don’t have a dedicated turkey gun but the sbe works good for pulling double duty.
