ANOTHER DRY YEAR?

Back in ‘11 and ‘12 there was almost a complete bean and corn crop failure around here. But those were some extreme drought conditions. Hopefully there won’t be any of that this year!

20/30% of our mature oak trees died of hypoxillon canker as a result of those two years. Last three years, they have died from extended inundation. Nature can be tough

May 31st was our last rain until this morning...it went from cool days and nights and lots of rain to extremely hot and no rain...we had lots of rain chances in that time but none actually materialized. It was especially hard on the hay folks because they had to wait on fields to dry out and then with every other day showing 50% or more chances they didn’t want to cut when everything did dry out. Finally this last week all of them just went ahead and cut and baled even with rain chances here and there since most all of it was just crying wolf. We went from low- mid 90’s the past 2 weeks now to 60’s and rain today. I got caught up on some of my commercial work but not all. Brushhogging season is in full swing and believe it or not I still had 3 dozer jobs that were too wet to do even though I checked the entire time we were dry...those 3 jobs are gonna be solid month with no rain jobs I am afraid. I will go out and check the plots here in a bit after the rain stops.

Rain missed us....
I feel your pain. Just about everyone east of the Mississippi has a chance of rain right now from this system moving east, but nothing for Kansas. And even New Mexico is getting a few showers.

No dry here. Rain this entire year. Finally was dry enough to mow my plots last week, but rain back again. I've lost 5# as golf is always cart path only, which I guess is a good thing. Feel like I'm living in the jungles of Nam!

Lots of chances for rain the next week, we’ll see what happens. My fil is having fertilizer broadcast on his sedan grass this today, so I really hope we get some rain for his sake especially.

Sky is clearing and we ended up with about an inch. Less than 30 miles away they got 5”, but we’ll take what we can get. Still some more chances the next couple of days, we’ll see what happens. Haven’t asked Catscratch what they got yet.

1.6 inches so far. Interestingly, the river is up big, lots of rain around, most of it has missed us. We could use some more. Most has stayed north, south, east, and west of us...

10% chance of rain yesterday and we received closed to an inch around the farm.

90% chance today under a Flash Flood watch and we’ve barely even been spit on. Funny how it works out sometimes.
