ANOTHER DRY YEAR?

From what I am hearing central Kansas is getting plenty of rain this year. Hoping neighbor got his 80 acres of soybeans in. And wishing I had more time this spring to get some more things done. Once I plant some oaks in 2022 expecting it to go dust bowl days next year. Fair warning to anyone farming in KS.
It can frickin stop raining any day now....... at least UNTIL we actually need it! We have had rain 15 consecutive days now. Forecast says there is the possibility of rain every day again this week. We have had close to 10"s since this monsoon season began. So wet we cant seem to get anything done.

We need rain badly here in PA and there's not much on the forecast. 2019 had a dry spell in late summer, 2020 was even drier, some of our ladino clover is still spotty from drought damage last summer and this year's starting off worse, it's unusual to be this dry in mid May here. I washed the vehicles and that didn't work, we invited friends for a picnic and even that didn't change the forecast. What we really need is some climate change here or center pivot irrigation or something. Are you guys dry too? Does anybody have any water ideas?
I feel your pain here in SW PA.
Its been a strange spring...Drier than normal in March, then we had decent moisture in April, and now May is back to the dry pattern.
In 2020 it went from winter to rain almost daily until July, then it shut off for the rest of the summer.
I cant remember the last year that we had "normal" conditions.

SE and NC PA are very dry. My lawn thinks it's August. It looks like the W/SW part of PA got some rain today. Seed went into the ground this weekend at our camp, so here's hoping some rain shows up soon!

Just goes to show how fast weather can change, I just got done saying there's not much rain forecast for the foreseeable future now this morning we got a nice soaker through Southern PA into Maryland and Northern Virginia. This is definitely a lifeline for our spring plots.

Yep. Just about the time I hit "send" on my earlier post it started to rain. By the time it was done 5 hours later, my rain gage said 1.25". Wonderful.

Still waiting on rain here. It’s been dry for coming on a month here. Now, we had double digit inches from February to the first week in April. We received 6.90” in February counting snow, 12.93” in March, and 2.37” the first week of April. It hasn’t rained since. We are still getting a little dew on the ground, but that’s it. We have a 20% chance for Thursday. We have a high pressure front that is just sitting on top of us.

I'm amazed at all the rainfall we've had. I am usually jealous of all you guys as our rainstorms down here can be few and far between. However, this year has been unreal. We had just shy of 7.5" in April and have had about the same so far this month. As soon as July hits, rainfall will be hard to find and will probably last through October.

I planted buckwheat and sunflowers last Tuesday with rain in the forecast. So blame me for lack of rain. Whenever I plant, rain disappears. I’m going to consider this plot toast. And I’ll try again in a week or so on that and other plots.

My friends in Hopkinsville KY got 10" in ten days several weeks ago. How could you not get any of that in Tennessee?

It went around us or stayed North. Nashville has gotten a grand total of 1.5” for May. I am 32 miles SE of Nashville. I live in what is called the Central(Nashville) Basin of Tennessee. We are surrounded by hills, down in a bowl. We tend to not get the same weather as everyone around us. If Nashville gets 4” of snow, we get zero or ½”. They will get rain and we won’t. I blame it on the hills and the way the wind and weather blows through or around this bowl I live in. The high pressure front is sitting right on top of the Central Basin right now. When I leave to go on a trip, I have to travel up hill in every direction. During March, the local lake was at winter pool(484’ above sea level) and by the time the rain stopped, it was at 502’. Summer pool is 490’ above sea level.

that’s wild. I’m outside of franklin and up until last week it rained nonstop. Of course I just planted into dust in ky this weekend but they are showing a good chance wed-fri up there. Also temps in the mid 70’s when I just roasted in the low 90’s this past weekend

After a relatively short dry spell here in SE Kansas, we’ve been getting good rains for a couple weeks now. Over 5” all together. Some are complaining about the lack of sunshine, but I know better! I hope to get some barley and rye thrown and mowed into a couple plots Thursday. Then I’ll wait for the ground to firm up a little more to plant some buckwheat in last fall’s brassica plot. Going to pick up the seed tomorrow.

Been wet here in NE Kansas. I'm not complaining because it'll shut off soon and won't rain for months :) Just glad I didn't try to get the milo in early before the rains started or it would be rotting in the ground by now. No tree watering this spring! I do feel for the drought areas though. It really stinks to see others getting nice rains when you are sitting in a dust bowl. Good luck guys and I hope you get a nice inch or two of rain.

If it keeps raining in Houston area, I'm going to need to grow some gills. Our farm in SW Missouri has been getting steady rains, and the Corps of Engineers is filling up all the local lakes to the top (except Table Rock - that's another story for another day). The bottoms that we refer to as the "deer hatchery" are going to be under water again this year it appears. Bad news b/c according to the Farmer's Almanac, we are staring down the barrel of above average drought in July, August, and September. Average years are not the best as the rains turn off around 4th of July, and the "Ozark Heat Dome" starts pushing rain north and south until after Labor Day. If we are going to be above average drought, it is going to get dry and dusty. We have some dozer work planned this summer, and I had hoped to get a crop of buckwheat going to have some mass to mow down on top of the fall plots.

Complaining about a lack of rain on deerhunterforum.com has worked wonders. We've had one unpredicted storm after another march through here this week. We're up multiple inches already, and more in the forecast. Our May drought is over.
Planted a couple acres of vetch Saturday and it was as dry as a popcorn fart. The radar was a brilliant mix of colors today over the farm. Beautiful sight

I got a drizzle. The rain gauge was so dry, it soaked most of it up.

I feel your pain. The next front is now moving east through the northern Great Plains, but at this point looks like it's going to travel just north of Tennessee. Hopefully you will get some moisture out of the southern end of it.
