When you mentioned skid steer and clearing in the same sentence I knew you would be disappointed...good luck with it and get a dozer or excavator in there when you can. It will make that years long food plot a reality in a day...

Yes, I'll chalk that up to a mistake, but the trails throughout the land turned out "ok". I guess it was worth the money, but I lost a day with a skidster driver rather than a dozer. Live and learn.

Set an Exodus Render cell cam out on a new small kill plot that is 100 yards from my destination plot. This plot is getting "limed" next weekend for fall clover/rye. The plot has been blasted with RoundUp the past several weekends. Actually surprised anything is green
This is my first cell cam and I'm still getting use to the settings. My 72 hour "Quick" observations. I get 1 bar with my AT&T Iphone which is actually a joke. This cell cam gets 4 bars and sends movies and pictures on a regular basis with no problems. I thought the pictures sent would have a little better quality, but its super nice getting them!!

Crunch time! As I write this post it’s 47 degrees outside in northern WI! Crazy this time of year.
Spent the last 3 weeks ‘liming.’Put down a little over 2000 lbs and will spray the liquid lime one more time when I plant Monday. I’ve also planted 2 dozen white spruce ( 2 foot+ that have been in pots) most of the summer as well as dozen eastern cedars. Weeding out the batches that always die. These were all planted to screen plots, stands, access trails and a right away road that cuts through an edge of my property.
My plots, trails won’t win any beauty contests this year, but should be effective attracting deer this year and beyond. One step at a time.
This is the connecting trail between the two food plots. Should be planted by noon Monday with clover. I still have some clean up that needs to happen and pull the drag everywhere.

47 degrees! Thats fresh!! I love the north, but the winters are a little too much for me. October is very beautiful though. Loved the pictures.

Man I love the north woods, looks like an awesome place!
I’ve had stumps in my plots since they were created a few years ago. I don’t till or disc so it hasn’t been a big deal.

isn't it crazy....less than month to that frost date already...flowers are shriveling up, most people around here "I hate how short our summers are" ....us "i hope it gets cold won't have to worry about skeeters opening day of season"

200# WR seeded 8/10
100# oats
Daikon raddish 10#
Crimson Clover 5#
Misc clover mixes on trails 20#
200# WR back on plots 9/18
6 additional white hybrid oaks tubed up and another 14 24” white spruce, 8 16”- 24” eastern red cedar.

Cut another small plot off of a swamp 1/8 acre max! Killed the vegetation and tried a bag of killer food plots deep woods mix and 50# WR on 9/18 as well.
So far, the two cell cams ive run show a few small bucks in the area. Ie fork and a pair of spikes, but 4-10 doe on a regular basis. Year 1 looks to be just a development year.
Everything greened up nicely. Deer are really mowing everything down

Thanks - My buddy and I "cut" this one in early August. This is truly a "deep woods plot". -- Through a Tamarack swamp (250 yards). We made this right on the edge of a penisula which has great edge.. I mean great edge. This has the potential to be a really nice spot in the future as soon as I can start attracting bucks that aren't yearlings. This is year 1 for me and this property so I know I need to be patient! BTW - Lugging the lime/fertalizer back there sucked! We're going to make it a little longer each year and suffer through lugging stuff back. I also need to make room, for 6 crab apples over there. I just love work! lol

We hunted the property for the first time this weekend and limited ourselves to the stands on the outside of the property since we're 2 weeks from heavy rut in WI.
(Good and Bad)
Quick observations:
My buddy and I have never seen so many deer in Northern WI. The power of food plots is impressive for Year 1. However, bucks have been limited to spikes (about 3-4 of them!)
Year 2-3 - Food plots need to be larger! Concerned how long the food will last at this point in 2021.
My Stand Placement will need to change year 2. Like the spots. Don't like the direction.
Exodus Render Cell Cams - All of them need external solar panels with high deer populations. The ones with solar - Great. The ones without - Dead and need new batteries when they hit 55% life.
The really bad. - less than 15 shots with my tenpoint nitro and the strings snapped when taking a few practice shots Friday afternoon. Sounded like a gunshot! No one got hurt and I was really glad I have a spare crossbow.
Lost my grunt call prior to this weekends hunt. So, in the market for a new one if anyone has any recommendations? I had a buck 35 yards away beating a on tree. That tree was whipping back and forth like he was trying to kill it!! He never came out of the thick cover, but damn!! (See above on no grunt call) I do have it on video - figured my buddies would never believe it without proof!

Cool looking stand location!
Glad no one got hurt with the crossbow explosion. I’ve been shooting a compound for a long time but something about those crossbows scares the crap out of me. That’s a lot of stored energy!

Saturday has been warm 55 degrees and still limiting ourselves to the exterior stands. However, tomorrow HuntWise predicts my area to be 4.5 bucks or 95% must hunt day. Yes! We’ll push in to the 3 best stands
Tonights stand is on the edge if a tamarack swamp. 80 yards from my destination plot. No deer at all this afternoon.. very quiet in the woods.

Quick review of year 1’s “Rut Hunt” - Almost 7 days into the hunt. (Worked remote for a day and half)- I’ve seen a lot of deer. More deer than I’ve ever seen, but my buck quality is extremely poor. Lots of spikes, forks, & small six. Oh yea, a “unicorn” yesterday afternoon came to visit.
I enjoyed taking the videos from the stand as much if not more than harvesting anything this week. I’ll post a few later tonight/tomorrow when i get home.
I had a ton of leaves in the destination plot. Made the decision to blow it off. It should be prime again for the Wisconsin Gun hunt in a few weeks.
My stand choice as I type this (top of a Ridge)

My “rutcation” ended without a buck, but I saw lots of deer and several small bucks that will hopefully live through the gun season which starts around the 20th. I did blow out all 3 of my food plots before I left this am. The leaves were thick and suppressing light…we have 50s most of the week and the WR should perk up a little.

The first 8 pictures were from a deep woods plot on n edge of a swamp. Apparently huge draw from the local deer. Really hammered this small plot and rubs all over these trees.
