Wool socks

During my army days I suffered frostbite in several toes and so find it difficult to keep my feet warm. In summer I wear merino wool hiking socks, in spring and fall wool socks, in winter merino wool under wool socks. Today doing spring cleaning laundry and hand washing all my wool socks in cold water with woolite. I then hand wring them all out and hang them on a drying rack in the shower to dry. Most of my hunting clothing is wool also with merino wool long underwear. Nothing is as quiet and warm as wool. Wool will keep you warm even when soaking wet. The drawbacks of wool, it is heavey, requires special care in cleaning and during off seasons must be protected from moths. Anyone else here that utilizes wool for hunting clothing?

It is my preferred clothing material by far. I think merino wool is the perfect fabric. Some of the high end synthetics are pretty darn good now, but nothing beats merino wool.

One of the other benefits of it is it’s fire resistant. That matters when you are backpack hunting.

I think for fingerless gloves alpaca beats even merino wool. I wear the fingerless gloves while stillhunting.

Not to be argumentive but I'm a huge fan of cotton clothing. Over many years of building barns in all weather I learned that white cotton tube socks keep your feet dryer all day than any other material, and dry feet are comfortable feet and comfortable feet are healthy feet. And a little baby powder before putting on your socks helps a lot too.
My feet are so used to cotton that whenever I wear any other material my feet are soon feeling uncomfortable (or maybe it's all in my head 🤩).

There are few that will agree with you, but I've worn a lot of cotton tube socks too.

I like cotton in the heat of the South Carolina summer or on the plains of Africa. I don’t want it anywhere near me on a cold day or wet day. Cotton can kill you in those conditions.

Yes, I've said it more than once, and not only because of the socks I was wearing, but as my thrice fractured back will testify to, it's really a miracle that I'm still alive🫢

Are there any brands of wool socks that you like better than others?

Not specific brands, but wool content must be at least 80% wool or merino wool. Many brands advertise as wool but if you look at the label they only contain10 or 20% wool. They will not keep your feet warm.
