Thought I would post this here as well...
The rain stopped about 6:15 am so I grabbed my gear and headed out into the wet and windy for the oaks because the deer seem to really be on the white oak acorns. I was in my stand well before light and just waited. In the pale early light a bit later I could see deer moving through the white oak patch...it got lighter and lighter until I could make out 2 does pretty well and as I watched them I saw them get nervous and bolt a few yards. I looked the way they were looking and my #2 buck came walking up from the creek bottom feeding on acorns. #2 is a buck I called Broke Leg 9 as you can see from this photo a year ago I had of him.
I had opportunity after opportunity last year but I passed on him hoping he would make it to see what he would turn into. I decided to take him this year based on trail cam photos I got that shows he put on quite a lot of antler since last year.
I squeezed the trigger on my TC Encore and the 245 grain Powerbelt slammed into him and he DRT! I watched from the stand for a bit to make sure he wasn’t going to get up but he died extremely quick. I had more does come in while I was watching him. I got down and put my seat cushion on him and headed to the house for the truck and saw another stud buck chasing does and then I saw even more deer walking out. I saw 16 deer altogether...now back to bowhunting for #1...
