What Broadhead(s) Are You Using?

Same here. Always shot mechanical before these, only fixed blade I've found that I could shoot well.

I tried mechanical heads early but had issues, lack of penetration, bent or broken blades and all that stuff. The G5's where my first try with a fixed blade that I didn't get planning issues with so I have stuck with what works ever since. I use the rage on my x-bow simply because they again seem to fly better and quality has improved to the point they work well from what I have seen thus far. I just want something that works and once I find something I am happy with I tend to stick with it. I am not an archery pro or anything like that so I am sure there are better ones out there, but I shoot to 30 yards with both bows and thus far they get the job done for me as long as I do my part.

I used Slick Trick broad heads and they penetrated my green bag target about half way and did the same with deer. I couldn't get a pass through on deer so doctorbrady recommended two fixed blades, and I have been getting pass throughs and busting bones. As a tracker I recommend two fixed blades for when things go wrong!

Rage is great when things go right, but couldn't be worse when things go wrong! The ribs on a big buck bust Rage. I had one track where the rib on a buck broke off one blade on a Rage. Here the ribs broke off part of both blades!

I switched to two blade fixed now as well after a successful harvest with a Rage, but not a pass through after hitting a rib upon entry.

Did you find the deer that was shot with those two broken blades?

The Rage makes a big entry if things go right. In this case the ribs broke both blades on entry and slowed the arrow so it didn't exit. Elkie tracked the buck over 400 yards after we lost blood and the hunter was very lucky that I got Elkie there before dark, because the buck was shot in the morning, and the meat would spoil.

Penetration and bone busting ability is needed when things go wrong. Use a point with worst case in mind.

I've had great luck with rage. Massive/easy to follow blood trails. Rage Hypo and Rage Extreme.

I did shoot a buck in the shoulder this year and did not recover him. Hit him high/good penetration (arrow stayed in for 100 yards) and had good blood. One blade was broken and the other appeared to have not deployed. Still wonder if a fixed blade would have done the job.

Google "Arrow lethality Doctor Ed Ashby", and yes a good fixed blade will bust through a shoulder!

What I hate about Rage is with shots that are not lethal. Rage leaves such a large wound that deer can't heal it and they eventually die a protracted death.

I came across this video of "Uncle Ted" explaining the benefits of two blade broad heads. In this video the bleeder blade is removed to get greater penetration, and the point is also rounded so that it's less likely to bend.
