Weekend project

We have had some of the coldest days of winter in Nashville. The duck hole is now a skating rink.

Deer season is also a rap and the kids did pretty good. The coyotes got on this doe in less than 30 minutes, and I’m a trapper. That’s embarrassing.

Update on the 30 day aged Jim beam venison.
Don’t do it! Looks good but the bourbon is overwhelming.

Update on bees. I had 3 out of 5 hives die. I think it was because of weak colonies and the cold. I should have requeened sooner in the summer or kill one queen and combine my best 2 hives for winter. The plus is I got some honey after pulling frames storing for next year.

I ordered 10 spartan cameras and got a couple cheaper IR models to try. I’m now running 12, they are awesome!

Update on the steel outdoors feeder. I’m training the button bucks to use it and it seams to be working pretty well so far to keep raccoons out. I’ve only seen them at the bottom for brief visits.

Lastly, I posted this on another thread but I needed to get the back end of a utv weighed for an implement in building. I had the hardest time getting the back end weight of one and then found a good guy to help.

You must be planting bottomland areas

bill

Bill,
I’m planting a small ridge and creek bottom that was full off older cedar. It buts up against my property line. I’m trying to slow them down a bit and grow some good trees for the future.
Gulf, I did 200 Saturday in the rain, it was a workout.

I've said it before but some of you guys wear me out just looking at your pictures and reading your posts of what work you are doing. Sheesh.

About 10 years ago I ordered some honey suckle and spent all day planting it and building a wire tpee over it. The next weekend I was walking the property Turkey hunting and couldn’t believe all the honey suckle I saw. I thought, what a waist of time. I can’t speak for others but I think I’m addicted and need help.

Got the scion wood put up in crisper. Yates, ark black, honey crisp, moonglow.

Also put a few traps out for the kids. We had rain both days so didn’t catch many. We have had so much rain lately, it was hard to find dry dirt. Even the bridges were swamped.

Here’s my trapping rig.

My son and I welded up a chameleon for a school project. Turned out pretty good.

Also got out this morning and planted some green giants for plot screens. The loblolly pines are getting thin. Prettiest morning we have had past couple weeks.
