The deer crushed my sunflower mix that I planted with my planter/drill. So I planted it again with a kasco drill. I'm thinking about purchasing it so I was lucky enough to test it out. The cultipacker didn't do a good job closing trench and I got a lot of debree in between the seed tube and single coulter. Both I think I can fix with more down pressure and spacers on the seed tube and opener.

I changed up my plans for this 2 acre field and am planting sun hemp, milo and Egyptian wheat.

Finally got the water spicket replaced. Now just need to back fill with some gravel and start filling up the water tank.

I also put out a few exclusion cages to check browse pressure. Lastly, make sure you guys wear chaps while doing chainsaw work.

I think if mine were displayed at the store there would be more chap sales.

The back openers have some space between them and caused some tubes to get clogged. Here is a picture of them.

I talked to kasco and they said the current ones have a spring so they are tight to the coulter. I'm getting update pricing and also seeing if I can add spacers to bring the tube closer to he opener.

The other issue was the closing culti-packer. It didn't do a good job on one field that had a lot of rock, but it did better on the other field which was softer. I checked the seed out yesterday and it looks like it's coming up.

I think it has a lot of potential if I can get the clogging issue straightened out. I will keep ya posted.

So far so good with seed coming up. I planted another small plot this morning.

I spoke with kasco and this unit is there first, around 15 years old. He said the 2 things they have changed is the scrapper/seed tube which is now set with a spring to keep it snug with the opener and the second improvement is they changed the opener angle so dirt is pushed to the outside instead of inside.

The update is around 2k which I will not do but maybe getting the spacers on and buying bigger coulters will help. I like it.

The kasco did pretty good with my screen mix. I'm trying a combo of sun hemp, milo and EW.

The corn I rolled and planted came up well but isn't going to make very good. I didn't use any nitrogen. Other places I top dressed with Urea looks better.

2 out of 7 of my persimmons I planted this spring have fruit. I think I will wait one more year and then try and ID and female graft the males.

Hung a few sets the last 2 weeks. I'm trying to get everything done before August.

I made a few mock scrapes while hinging and felling trees. I used the vine like some have been doing.

The bees are enjoying the banks water trough.

6 years ago I put in a kiddie pool for a water hole. I planted 2 red oaks and 2 Leyland Cypress around it to keep it shaded. Here is a before and after pic.

This morning I worked a little on a new food plot. I cleared out some trees and hung another licking branch/ scrape spot. I climbed in my FEL bucket and wired it off to a branch. Hopefully I will get a couple pics near it.

I planted some brassica last week. One field drilled with the kasco and the second field broadcast into a sprayed summer mix and then rolled. Hopefully the small seed will find its way threw the weed mat. Stay tuned for results.

The new woods plot is starting to pop and a buck I call wide 7 has shown up. I think he's 5 from past history, hopefully I will get a whack at him.

Also the banks water trough is attracting more than bees.

Got the opportunity to rob some bees of honey. Kind of a weird place to have a bee colony but I know why they did so well. Air conditioner in the summer and heat n the winter. Bees in the chimney!

Got out this morning and planted some fall plots before the rain. The brassica is coming up nicely in the CNC style plot. I sprayed, broadcast seed and rolled. Today I added some urea.

The kasco rolling threw a summer mix of milo, pearl millet, sunflower, buckwheat and sun hemp. Not much left in it but pearl millet and milo. I planted oats, wheat, ladino and chic.

Sawtooth oaks are loaded this year. I guess 10 years is the magical time period. Now I have to figure out how to hunt my road. They usually drop threw first part of October.

Lastly, the late fry muscadines are doing great this year. They have been a pain to get established but I might be able to make some wine this year if the deer leave me enough.

Thank you for watching. The kasco has been a lot of work but fun to plant with. It really saves time to do it all in one pass.

I have had some problems though. The disk wobble a little when turning, so the scrapper blade comes off more in spots causing it to catch grass n weeds. I ordered new coulters for it thinking the wobble was warped coulters but I think the bearings are a little loose on some of the units.

I also took each one off and torched it to try and bend the scraper blades closer to the coulter disk. Some I got closer than others.

When I planted yesterday I planted two different types of fields. One was killed with a lot of thatch.

and the other was the summer mix I posted yesterday.

The seed tubes were getting clogged in a about 3-4 out of the 9 units with the thatch field.

With the summer mix plot, the drill did much better. I think because everything was attached and there was no thatch under the canopy. Drilling it was like combing your hair, if you have any.

I'm still considering buying it but I will have to change the scrapper blade and seed tube set up. It's a work out getting off at every turn and cleaning out seed tubes but it still saves time.

I haven't purchased them yet but updates are about $630 for 9 units. Not sure if they will fit but looks like they will. Here they are.

Tried working on a platform stand last week. I'm going to but a pop up blind on top and maybe save up for a better one down the road. I used 12' 4x4s and that thing is pretty high. Wish I had a lower platform but I'm sure I want be sorry. I just need to hide it better getting in and out. I planted EW in front of it and I have a path cut threw NWSG heading in. Hunting over a brassica mix.

A friend of mine borrowed my ground hog disk. I haven't used it much but it seams to do a great job if you have the ground prepped. 2 things you need for it to work is a good ramp to set disk, a 4 wheel drive 4 wheeler and dry conditions. Disk clogs if to damp.
