Throw N Mow thread...

I wanted to try this method and planned on spraying this weekend but there is a high percentage of rain for Sunday on thru the week. My question is, if I spray tomorrow will I be wasting Gly if it rains on Sunday?

Also Sergio I sprayed a couple hours before a rain and got a great kill so think you will be ok to spray now

I finally had a chance to cut yesterday. It was only a few days after I put the seed down. The birds and turkeys definitely had a chance to eat some seed. Oh well. Life definitely moves on. Anyhow, this morning I had a moment to sit in the stand. No bucks moving but did have an exciting hunt. Maybe that story later in another thread but on the way back I had a chance to look for progress. If I get a chance I'll post some pics but I have germination for the smaller seed. Oats are still just there. It's last year oats I had left over that was kept in the garage so it should germinate.

Thanks for the input but unfortunately I wasn't able to spray due to pump on my sprayer going out but we finally got some rain and that should help with the plots we had already put in place.

Trying my first T&M plot this year. I thought when I sprayed, that the vegetation was really thick, but after spraying, waiting 2 weeks, and spreading/mowing, I definitely have some spots that don't have enough thatch. Hopefully driving over the plot with the tractor packed a lot of the seed into the soil in the bare spots. Hopefully the rain chances this week will pan out.

Without rain I can tell you from experience you won't get anything unless your ground was already really wet and you get heavy dews every night. We had none of this going for us and absolutely nothing germinated in the areas I have done TnM the last 3 years with decent success...Good thatch in most spots

I planted after a decent rain. Didn't get rain for almost two weeks but had heavy dew like you mentioned and ground had moisture and got great germination. Just got a dose of rain here the other day and the oats are definitely loving it. Will snap some pics later.
Rain and timing are, as always, the key to success with throw and mow. The advantage I feel it has over a traditional seed bed is the ability to hold what little moisture you do get if it is sparse.

I would do it. I done a couple that were in a field that hadn't been mowed in a couple years. The field was really bad and turned out good.

If you cut hay off it this year you will be surprised how little thatch there really ends up being. Compared to what it looks like going in. It should work out just fine.

15lbs brassica mix. Think it's like 4lbs kale 4lbs rape 4lbs radishes and 3lbs turnips. The total area is about 1 1/2 acres.

All the new, little growth is oats:
The look at the bigger picture. Like I said, I didn't spray this plot so some of it has already grown back up some but with these cooler temps we are getting they should be done growing soon. So most of the green is just warm season grass but you can tell from the pictures above I have a fair amount of oats shooting up. And a decent start at the turnips.
