Now that your fields are fitted, you would be well served with a grain drill for that amount of planting.

A no till drill is on the watch list, just a matter of time until I can find one local for a reasonable price.

Nature is certainly throwing her all at us here in NE Oklahoma this year...

I'll be adjusting the timing on fall plots next year for sure, I'd trade you my armyworms for them armadillo.

So before daylight Sat AM I eased up the ranch road that borders COE land in my Polaris EV, checking for trespassers. Thankfully no encounters with interlopers. I snuck up to one of the foodplots & sat in the dark for a few minutes, seeing shadows moving in the plot but not being able to ID what they were. After a few more minutes, through my binos I could tell it was a sounder of hogs, they moved on before shooting light. A friend and I put up a few more stands and got some target practice in preparing for the afternoon hunt.

The Sat PM & Sun AM hunts were pretty uneventful, squirrels were busy cutting acorns but deer were not moving, at least not where we were at. After the morning hunt we put up one of two new double ladder stands that I plan on hunting from with my grandson, we put the stand in an area thick with oaks, the other one will be put overlooking a foodplot for insurance. The youth gun hunt is from 10/14-10/16, I'm really looking forward to it.

Nice looking setup for the grandson. Love making memories hunting with grandson and several have come while sitting in a double stand like pictured.

The stand is a Rivers Edge, mesh seat sorta like millennium...should be comfy.
Funny thing, hunted with all three of my sons for years, plenty of good memories. We never hunted out of a tree stand with rifle or ML, always just sat on the ground, always filled the freezer. I think I'm gonna like the two man stand though, grand son will be 8 in Nov...still pretty restless.

Hit the ranch this AM to check for armyworms, none seen in any of the plots. The NE & N center plots have had 3/10 of rain since planting on 9/17, rye oats & radish have been up but thin for a couple weeks. Finally got 9/10 last night, hopefully enough to get the rest of the seed sprouted.

Same here. Has Eli taken up a bow yet? a bit young to bow hunt but not too young to learn to shoot. I've been looking at youth/starter bows for Haydn. Hoyt ignite looks really nice, plenty adjustable as well. May have to hook him up soon.

Glad you got some rain...it was certainly a godsend! I see fresh deer tracks in the mud...good sign

I was getting concerned the plot would die out soon, the little rain we got should keep things green for awhile longer.

My buddy ended up in that plot right at dusk last sat afternoon, he said there were 15-20 deer feeding. We're gonna have to move his stand.

A southpaw, We're thinking one of our grandsons is as well.
I am not surprised Eli has already been shooting a bow, that's awesome... good on you introducing him to shooting & the outdoors.

I envy you guys with tall straight trees. All my trees are so crooked it's hard to get a ladder stand on comfortably. Seems I'm always cockeyed. Plot looks good--looks like you got some good moisture. Hoping for some rain myself later this evening and into the night. Missed a little front this morning.

Dogdoc if you don't mind using hang on stands look at rivers edge climbing sticks. They are single 3 ft sections and make it much easier to place in a crooked tree.

we do have some decent trees for stands, plenty of other challenges to deal with though...rocks, boulders, hogs to name a few.

Got a decent rain last night, 1.86" on the west end of ranch, 2.26 on the east...plots should be looking better soon.
