Glad you have some soil moisture. This patchy drought is really weird this year. Dry as the desert in spots but move a mile or 2 over and everything looks great...weird!Hopefully we'll get some of the forecasted rain this week. I did go out yesterday to put a couple more cameras out and we still have decent soil moisture, another rain or two & I think we'll be in good shape.
Still holding some soil moisture [even though we didn't get squat out of the last storms) where i was able to leave vegetation/thatch, some of the disked plots are powder dry. I had to disk & level, they were just too rough to maintain.Glad you have some soil moisture. This patchy drought is really weird this year. Looks like a newer roof. That's nice
20 acres of plots--wow. But after seeing all the deer feeding on your plots I suppose you need that much to keep them fed.
plots look great.

Sat AM I headed out to throw & mow the last two plots, a little over 5 acres and get a few stands up. My tractor/bush hog was still out on the east plots, so first thing was to retrieve them, checked the 10 ac plot while I was there. I was deflated by what I found, over half of what last weekend was looking great was gone, a closer look revealed armyworms. After a lifeline call plans changed, headed to get some chemical to salvage what I could. Sprayed and checked two other plots planted last weekend, they received no rain during the week but oats & rye still managed to sprout, no armyworms in either was found...yet. After spraying I over seeded some addl rye and what little oats I had leftover ahead of the alleged rain. After battling worms with the help of my son's & a good friend we got seed down & mowed the last plots. I never seen a drop of the alleged rain while working over the weekend, looks like maybe a couple tenths last night. I'll be scouting the plots as often as possible.
Never did get my stands in.
I'll have right at 20 acres in plots when finished, 15 ac on the east end of ranch in 3 plots, 5 ac on the west end two plots . The deer density on the east end (against the river) is much more than the west, I'm hoping to increase deer on the west but limited in anything approaching decent soil.
