I knew Target 10 was 140+ gross and 140- net before I killed him, turns out 140.875 gross and 139 net. I'm going to take him to my expensive taxidermist in Michigan and start a Kentucky wall.



Nephew Grant sent me some pictures from his and my brother Gary's lease in Indiana.





Bro called me at 7:30 am Friday morning as he was coming to grips with what just happened. He finally got the monkey off his back, in a big way. They were talking 20" of non-typical points, 50" of mass, and 185" gross?



Last pictures of Young 10. I heard of a 10 going down on the ridge east of me, I may have lost him.

It's been slow for us. We spent the better part of three days at it, twice. Adult bucks have been moving some at night, but only one 3 yo in the daylight on camera one afternoon. #1 buck has been a no show since a few days before firearms opened. May be dead as I don't know all of the neighbors well enough to be sure I'd hear about it right away. My daughter took a coyote, and a young feller I hosted shot a doe (his first deer) one evening so it's not been a bad year, just not much movement from the bigger boys. We'll try again a little later.

I got into the Amphitheater of Hunting stand last evening. At 5 pm a big girl was out feeding in the little food plot that I put in up on the ridge top.

Then the Target 10 showed up dogging the big girls daughter. Around and around they went in the thick staging area.

He snort wheezed and I then snort wheezed back at him and he moved to the east where I had an unobstructed view between trees.

After the shot Momma came back over the ridge to find a dead buck and in time to watch me shoot her daughter.

So, deer hunting is over, for a few days I had some trouble adjusting. Habitat season begins.



My food plot planted in late September in front of the AOH stand



is feeding deer.



I have manipulated the top of my ridge and I'm now looking down through my stand area into the deep below.



I have a skid trail down that needs some work to enter my next work areas.



Logging tops circa 1996.



To the east I have my new oak savanna with an understory of red maple hacked and squirt in October.



To the west I have untouched, by me, nonsense down under my stand.



Yesterday I cleared the trail down into my work area to a point that I could turn around.



Another 80 yards and the trail came to an end.

I then raked out a perimeter fire break and tried it out.



It was ready but I had too much interior prep left to do so the fire got put out.



Today I went up and smoked it. No burn ban during the day in December. About 1 acre.





I had a little excitement towards the end when the wind shifted 180*.
