Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

You are correct, the proper term is necropsy, I'm an Animal Science major! I typed it, then changed if for fear of nobody knowing what I was talking about.

Why was I thinking a CJ major?

You don't have to respond to that.

I use wunderground and go to maps then interactive radar and turn on windstream. The map allows one to dial in on your ground. I don't use any phone apps.

That fact couldn't have been more clearly illustrated for me than by the pictures of my target 9 listening to me pull up and then turning and heading for the Sanctuary. The 5 NC fellers that hunt the 900 acre lease next to me get a lot of good buck pictures at their bait sites. When they head in to hunt I hear the drone of 4 wheelers for a half hour. They drive right to their stands for the most part. The last that I talked to them 5 guys hunting all week, sometimes all day, saw two deer total.

Down in the crack the wind does it's own thing. It can be a strong westerly up on the ridge and down in the crack it could be blowing the opposite direction up the crack.

I'm fighting the urge to jump into the Sanctuary, this morning after a rain for example. But I can't bump deer out where they would be more vulnerable. I text with my neighbors when we are on the ridge but none of us can text down in the crack.

The morning dog walk down the drive is not the problem. It is the 300' vertical over 800 yards of rough rock that knocks the snot out of my Ranger 900 to the top. Some of the rock face is more reminiscent of mountain goat terrain.

I've been putting in some quality stand time and haven't seen a deer in a week.

The 9 is back on camera alive and healthy with no holes and seems to have replaced the 8 on the 2a.m. shift.

I sure hope you get the 9 G. Our deer turn in to different animals after gun season. They don’t get tons of pressure on our property, but see a steady stream of intrusions all around.

Good luck G. My deer here are in a post rut pattern. Eat...sleep...and minimal travel. I’ve seen 6 deer and 26 turkeys at the creek bluff property this morning. Got lost in a 20 acre field walking in due to fog. Came out 100 yds from my blind.

Deer in different areas handle pressure differently. What I can get by with on my rural property 30 miles south of here I absolutely cannot get by with up here in the big woods.

The 29th was the last day of gun season. I choose to drive to Michigan to labor on the horse farm that day to avoid winter weather which was forecast for the following day. The doe herd remains intact.

I had what I believe to be a return from last year who I had yet to see.

I found an accidental Tank style breeding on line and I virtually picked one out and this is his 4 week old picture.

hank 1 (538 x 1200).jpg

I received a 5 week picture on Saturday and

hank 3 (675 x 1200).jpg

yesterday at 6 weeks the lady says that mother no longer is feeding and that they are ready to go. 6 weeks is too early so I'm stalling a day or two. If he has yet to learn bite inhibition Tank will help him. We may no longer be welcome to labor at the horse farm.

They seem to have taken to each other, which is a big thing. If Tank didn't like him from day one there'd be a lot of tension.

Tank got after him once today and as horrific as it sounded other than being a bit traumatized the little guy was no worse for wear. A couple of minutes ago Tiny was carrying on in his cage and Tank growled at him and he instantly shut his mouth and laid down. Generally speaking if you come out of a squabble with Tank alive and not needing emergency surgery, you are his friend. Tiny's prognosis is good but guarded.

Cute little fella. I’m on a waitlist for a lab puppy - can’t wait to have a dog again. The woods aren’t the same without a dog.

Another deer less morning and

evening for me. I'm going to have to do something a bit different to see a deer.

DSC05104 (1200 x 900).jpg

Yesterday was a good dog day, no more trauma. Tiny is a good natured fella and he started holding his bowels for outside. Tank is enjoying his new friend which is the main reason for getting the puppy.

I hope that your wait isn't too long and that you end up with your perfect new buddy.

I finally got the bright idea to put up a camera to see what has been leaving all of that poop Tank has been eating in the radish patch in the cabin's back yard.

and as it turns out I have been working too hard to see a deer.
