Shade tolerant plots

Good evening gents,

I started clearing about a 1/2 acre plot late last summer in a laurel thicket. The soil had a low ph of about 5.0 if I remember right. Life got in the way but I dropped a few trees and put down about 240# of lime. I know I need more lime ASAP but what would be a good warm season seed choice for low ph that is shade tolerant?
Thanks

Ph is prob gonna hurt you more than the shade. Laurel typically indicator of poor acidic soils. I use RC and WW on shaded farm roads planted fall with good results throwing down lime and fert.

Wonder if I could go heavy on seeding rate next month or so with frost seeding red clover?

Yep WC and RC frost seeds well Feb thru late march. I've had better luck in mid=late March. Your area prob a little earlier. You can go ahead and throw down 300#/ac 19-19-19 Fert for start and even go ahead with a WR and it will die out mid summer. After establishment, use 0-20-20 . I overseed clover plots each fall with WR or WW.

I should apply fertilizer when I frost seed? Or wait until it starts sprouting?

March- may good for Fert. But it won't hurt to do with frost seed if you want, then hit again in fall. Since you wanting to do a spring planting, may need spray with cleth for grasses late April. Fall plantings don't give as much issue with weed and grass in plots. VT does soil tests for free I think if you haven't done one yet , ck with your county agent for supplies.

I got 300# of lime tonight that I’ll throw down tomorrow. Then I’ll frost seed either red clover or Durana or a combo of both later this month

Getting ready to do something similar. I've been using both SoluCal (commercial landscape supply store) & SoluLime (Southern States) since it's super quick acting. Costs more per lb but you don't need near as much.

Have you had good results with SoluCal?

Try chicken manure. Its cheaper, better for the soil and will neutralize it also.
