Pruned appropriately?

This is my first attempt at pruning so I only took a couple twigs off of a young pear tree I just bought. So if I want branches to grow out away from the central leader I cut just above a bud facing away? Does it look like I did this correctly? I used a sharp exacto to make the cuts.
