Otter trapping

Caught a mink in a cage trap last night. I let it go. The trap was set on a trail I found in the marsh grass. I brushed it in really well and put a couple old oyster shells in it. Cool.

That's a great catch too cutman! I can still remember my first mink catch, Christmas day 1980.
A small female, but I was one happy trapper. My now mother in law still swears my dad hired someone to put it in my trap.

This is a very old thread, but I had to update it. I’ve become quite a good otter trapper. I caught nine last year and 6 so far this year. My fish love me. 😂
I did a lot of trapping as a boy, but never trapped for otter. Whats a typical otter set and trap look like?

Good for you. Indiana just opened otter season state-wide, way too late. They have destroyed many fishing ponds. Caught 11 last year on depredation tags in about a mile stretch of creek. We can set 220s on dry land and 330s can be half submerged. We can also use snares. I use all three pretty successfully. I have the most luck on trails and slides on dry land. Would stink to not be able to set a conibear on land.

Nice job Cutman. The creek at my 20 acre place is full of them, and I can't believe how massive they are. I have a video on my I-phone of about 6 of them that got upset because I walked down there on day. They wouldn't leave.

If otter prices were what they were several years ago you would be in the money. One of my buddies paid cash for a new Chevy pickup in the early 2000s I believe it was strictly with otter money. $100 a otter and he was averaging at least 5 a day.
