Todd thank you very much. Thank you for all you have done to help get the FB group setup and now we all have another forum as well. Things are really going in the right direction and it is because of guys like yourself that we all are having a place to share our thoughts, ideas, and stories!

Deer burgers- with a kick!
1.5 lbs deer
1 lb Italian hot sausage
bread crumbs - Italian seasoned
salt, pepper, garlic powder, crushed red pepper
2 eggs
Half pack of black pepper bacon - Cut with kitchen scissors into small strips
Sometimes I add a splash of red hot, while I am mixing if you like an extra kick.

mix up, season, mix up season
Add bread crumbs and eggs- mix up
Add chunks of bacon- start to mix
start to make patties

Grill and top with pepper jack cheese!

Glad to see another one of my Buckeye Brothers from the old forum. Looks great, glad you got your seed in. Glad I did too, this rain is awesome. Exception being the damn green, tall grass at my house. It's usually brown this time of year and I can get a lot of things accomplished without worrying about cutting grass.

We now have an "Outdoor Café" section that this post would be perfect for! It's a go to for recipes and pics of fine cooking and it puts them all in one place so they are easy to find! As much as you like to cook I hope to see several of your recipes and meals over there!

behind the house wasn't doing too good, boy has this rain helped. I tell you what, SE Ohio has gotten smashed with rain! I am going to check on beans/corn this weekend. If the deer have let them go, I should be cooking!
 
Buck do you have a little bit of Italy in you?? We have strong Italian heritage in this state and their cooking is beyond description. Your cooking looks awesome and always has that Kick.

Yessir, my grandparents are from western PA (lots of small Italian neighborhoods in that area as well, similar to WV). Grandpa is Check (worked in the mines before coming to Ohio to work for GM). Grandmas on both sides are Italian! Yes I am a Dago and proud of it hahaha!

All joking aside, Italians are great cooks. They love spices, and making things rich/full. I tend to be that way as well. I don't like giving you something to eat that you think (this needs this/that). I want you to taste it and have to put it down, to really enjoy that bite. That is my goal every time I touch frying pan.
 
Nice thread Buck! I liked the comment about how not all of Ohio is flat......not ALL, just MOST! Being from IN myself, I fully understand. I however am a flat lander! You got any tassels or silks on that corn yet? Ag corn in my area is growing ears, my plot corn is a little behind that, but I had tassels and silks last weekend. I like the beans and corn together - I have done this once myself. Only thing I didn't care for was the double dose of fertilizer needed because they are so different for those crops.

I am happy you asked that. I haven't seen corn in three weeks so i am in hopes its starting to tassel. Is that when it starts to produce cobs? First year doing corn, I'm a rookie!

The FERT wasn't too bad. I actually did the urea by hand and used the tractor and 3pt to do the DAP.

I might hit corn with a light dose of urea this weekend. More rain coming next week!

I would say half of Ohio is flat. Half is Appalachia. I've lived in both area and I tell ya. I love my home state. Go Buckeyes!

The tasseling and silking phases are how the corn is pollinated. The tassels will come first and then closely followed by the silks. The pollen falls from the tassel onto the silks and that then is what kicks off the grain production process. That is why seed corn companies remove the tassels (de-tasseling) off some corn and leave others.....it's to facilitate the cross breeding they desire. Then you develop cobs or ears they will grow with time and ,moisture and then it will start to dry down (silks will turn brown and rough) and the kernels will develop a dent in them (and thus why field corn is called "dent" corn). You want to see a plant that has been studied to death....research corn!
 
IMG_2070.JPG Well made it to farm today. Working here until Tuesday, then heading to good ol Columbus Ohio, home of the Buckeyes! OH!

Anyways, rain was coming and it was coming quick. My cousin and I spread UREA on the corn, oats, and brassicas that we have between our beans/corn.

Here we are enjoying the rain!
 
I decided after spreading UREA and it was pouring it was prime time to eat. I was cooking up some burgers from above. This is a shot of the orchard in the yard. We love it there! IMG_2068.JPG
 
You have to check your plots as your top dressing UREA!
Brassicas are on their way though.

was very happy to see corn coming in strong! I have had a lot of wind damage but thats, that! Every stalk has a cob on it! Growing very well! Very Happy, especially for broadcast corn. IMG_2062.JPG
