My phone is dying, currently have a casio commando, a little outdated but I love it rugged, water proof, can take multiple falls from the tree and keep on ticking. I am not a social media guy or a movie download guy. Pretty simple in a what I am looking for in a new phone. Few calls, txt, quality camera and a weather app or two and that's about it for me.

Anyone have a suggestions

Most all of the current phones are all pretty good, it is more important to decide which operating system you want to go with. IOS, android or Windows based are the most popular. The one that your most familiar with is what I'd go with.

I am not a real tech savvy kind of guy. Operating systems are not a priority. What I do like is durable, functional, and reliable. I love my commando (think its an android??????) I am also not real happy with buying extra stuff to protect it. The other phones in my house "need" protective cases, cover glass protector, and who knows what else to keep their phones safe?????? 5 years with the same phone, no breaks, chips, cracks to speak of. And I have dropped this phone 20 plus times out of the tree, and slid across the drive way a few times.

I'm surrounded by techies at work that are into the latest electronics. iPhone is hands down the best, most reliable, easiest to use smart phone on the market. That's why Apple is such a successful company.

The problem with any phone nowadays is that they are so big. Barely fit in your pocket anymore. I'm still using the iPhone 5 (they are up to the iPhone 10 now) in hopes they come out with another small version. They are supposed to....it's called the SE....but it ain't out til it's out.

Any smart phone you get requires the purchase of an Otter box to protect your investment. They run about $50 and do a good job of protecting your phone. Mine has been cased since new...3-4 years ago....dropped many times...still looks like new. It's water resistant, not waterproof, so you can't use it under water.

If Apple comes out with the SE, I would say that's your new phone. If not, you are stuck with the 7 or 8 which are much bigger. There are still flip phones on the market, but they are so limited in what they can do I recommend just going to a smart phone.

I too, am a semi-dinasaur. I use an iphone 5s, mostly because it fits in my shirt pocket. My "Lifeproof" case wasn't so I bought a cheap Chinese case off ebay that I like much better for less than $10. It has a rubber ring around it that "grabs" so that it doesn't fall out when I bend over. There are other options besides the high dollar cases.
