Live from the stand 2016!

Rifle hunting?

Yep. Starts Saturday but doesn't end till first of December which gets a lot of bucks killed with a 2 buck limit and the checking of all game on the web. It's been so hot here like it has been their that the bucks have only be moving at night.

I hope he has my poaching neighbor patterned...I saw this buck this morning out of bow range and he walked into a big hollow to my west...a few minutes ago I heard 2 rifle shots in there

Seems like you loose a few bucks every year to the (long bow hunters) around you. Sad thing is your long bows are rifles. I hear a few of those as well here during bow season also.

About sick after looking at these pictures from yesterday. First one is me putting some rice bran in a spot and then walking another 300 yards to a stand I figured would be the bomb!

This was taken just a few minutes later :(

That at least gives you confidence that you don't run them all off when going to those back stands.

7:35 I saw thick beams moving through dappled sunlight 50 yards left (north) of me. I forgot my grunt call so I can called. Deer rubbed a tree and went toward my north plot.

5 minutes later I heard something behind me and had a mid 140's 8 point moving from SW to NE behind me. I can called and he stopped, made a scrape, rubbed a tree and turned and went back the way he came...

I would almost rather leave my release home than leave my grunt call home right now :(
A good fart sounds like a grunt. Improvise.
Rainy and windy and 40 deg temps here. Only saw a 6 and fork horn and bunch of does. The one I'm after comes each day/night and makes new rubs on trees around my stand to aggravate me. I was surprised to watch a buck work a scrape I had made for that I didn't think was being used. He licked, bit, rubbed, crapped, peed and then walked away. Set up for easy 20 yd shot, but need bigger dude. Interesting. Headed to far ridge tomorrow morning and try change things up. Snow showers on Sat so that's good. Had 7 deer in my yard when pulled in drive back home. Good luck everyone.

So no deer as of yet but did have a coyote come trotting in at 7:15. Tried calling him back with the can but to no avail.

He stayed just on the edge of the river in front of me.

Just had a chase come through behind me. I caught a glimpse of what must have been the doe (1st deer). I heard the buck grunting but never could see him. Hopefully they work their way back in here.

Slow day, only deer seen was walking up the driveway while I was at camp for lunch. Sitting on my rut ridge this evening, but nada so far..

Yesterday evening I sat up where I killed "laid back 9" back in early October just praying the dogs stayed away...I guess it worked! I ended up seeing 7 does/fawns and a nice 9 point buck. He was trying to dog the does but I guess none were close to in. He followed them all around my tree and I could have had my pick. The big 8 point never showed and I was getting concerned for his welfare after the 2 shots I heard that evening :(

This morning the wind had switched to SE so I decided to hunt a ladder stand in the woods at the back of our property. I had not been in it since I checked straps in August. On my way to the stand I could hear the dogs running the property directly west of ours. I hoped they would stay out of ours. I jumped a deer about half way to the stand and it stayed directly in front of me blowing and stomping at me and moving with me all the way through our property and I was pretty sure everything was pushed out at that time :(

I climbed slowly up the ladder stand and due to settling it popped loudly 3 times. Once I got settled and it started lightening up I realized the stand was not going to work due to all the leaves still on the trees and I could barely see 10 yards. I had set the stand up the previous rifle season in early December and at that time it was open enough but not now...I got down slowly to move to another stand and it popped 3 times again and as soon as my feet hit the ground I heard a deer bound off behind me...

I walked the 50 yards to the hangon stand I had put near our north plot and got settled in. The wind was ever so slight SE but you could tell it was trying to switch to SW which was better for where I was. At 8:20 I saw a set of deer legs in the sunlight through the trees but couldn't make out the sex of the deer. At 8:30 I had a doe and fawn come from my NW and with the slight SE wind she got nervous and started blowing and then they left. At 8:45 I noticed a deer in the plot coming from my south headed north and noticed it was a nice young 8 pointer. I took a video of him in the plot as he worked his way across and took a trail to leave.

I saw no more deer at 10 so I got down because I wanted to drive to home 10 to check it out and then come to our deer lease for an evening hunt. I checked trail cams when I was leaving our property and noticed the big 8 point was near our south plot while I was back near the north plot...I have great stands everywhere and any one of them can produce but picking which stand is going to produce which day is the kicker!

I am up on the mountain at our deer lease now. West wind. Headed back home after this hunt because N wind is returning tonight!

No deer sightings this evening. I'm not hunting again until Monday but going with a buddy to his place. He has BIG bucks and has taken two nice ones already this year. Should be a good day.

I joined this forum simply because of this thread. Every other hunting forum I am a member at there is nothing but fighting and making fun of people for this or that. This thread is what a hunting forum should be! Hunters that truly love being out there sharing it with others.
Having said that, our rifle season (in western Kentucky) starts on Saturday and I am more excited than I have been in years. Both of my nephews will be out there with me and I have been waiting for this since the day they were born. Also hunting a new spot that I got permission to hunt this year and there is supposed to be a buck that "looks like it has a brush pile on his head" according to the farmer that owns it. I will be the guide for the morning so I will try to post up some updates for you all and hopefully some pictures of two nice bucks.
Thanks to you all for keeping me entertained and fired up for Saturday!

Welcome Chris. No fighting here. Just hunters who love to hunt.

36, absolutely calm wind, no dogs running and no shots yet. Didn't jump any deer on the way in and I am in my favorite rut stand on whitetail hollow.

Big bodied buck cruised by at 20 yards before identifying light and then another nice young 8 pointer cruised by at 7 am.

My wife is sitting over our south plot this morning. Great morning so far!
