Late Winter projects, locusts, cedars and new stands

The Stihl 180 was discontinued about 4 months ago but found the last one in stock within about 100 miles. Going to grab that later today and give it a shot. Sounds like a great option. Thanks again for the recommendation there.

Driving out of the way to grab a 180 is worth it, they are a simple design that usually runs trouble free for many years

Put my first 3 tanks of gas through the MS180. Its a pleasure to use for sure. I may have the carb running a bit rich. Will youtube the adjustment on that and correct. That said, I cut maybe 200 cedars the last few days with it. Way easier than the 60 cc Huskie. Thanks for the tip.
Generally chainsaws run a bit rich, the fuel is partially what keeps the cylinder cool, running too lean on a 2 cycle can burn the piston. While the saw shouldn't be blowing blue smoke I'm used to my eyes burning slightly from rich fuel after several hours of cutting. This is one of the niceties of battery saws :)

No wind? I usually position myself so the smoke blows away from me. But, I do live in a place that's commonly breezy.

Another plug for the MS-180. I can say my 180-c is some of the best money I've spent. The "C" suffix is for the easy-pull model. Very easy to start. I just spoke to a Stihl dealer near me, and the saw that's the replacement for the 180 is the 182-c-e. Same saw as the MS180, but with a bit extra gas & oil capacity.

I've cut for hours with my MS-180c on oak logs from 3" dia. to 16" dia. with no problems at all. I've had an MS-390 w/20" bar for years, but after a while, the weight wears on you. The compression that can yank back on you with the MS-390 when starting, can hammer your knuckles!!! I've found the 180 to be up to 90% of the challenges I need it for. Great saw IMO.
