I asked this last year— and am again this year. Our family caps our gifts at $150. I have $150 to spend on my dad (also bowhunter). What would you spend yours on for a gift?

I tell my son the same every year... a day at the farm just hanging out not really doing anything overly productive. And I usually get that. I have more than I need of everything, But this year I did tell him I wanted a wool sweater with gortex or windshear as my ancient one was getting rough. I think those are about 90$ reg price. I take XL if your wanting to get me something too Kwood!!

Where's a good place to buy a wool and Gore-Tex sweater?
 
I’ve really become a fan of warm base layers. I’m at the age (56) where I want to be warm. merino wool is my new favorite. Minus33 has some good stuff. I also really like my Cabela’s stand hunter base layer shirt. Maybe your dad is the same?

I'll second the stand hunter base gear, like wearing a blanket.
 
Mine with windshear was noisey but cabelas sell some stuff called wooltimate and it is nice.A knife with something personal engraved on it.Wish my dad hunted or wanted to go to the farm
 
I don't know about your dad. I'm a dad - and a bow hunter. Here's my wish list. On the bow hunting theme, I don't need more tree stands - unless someone wants to put one up for me. At my age I'm looking for a stand that offers a little more comfort and ease of access. Climbing sticks and chain-on platforms are losing favor! Me, I can never have too many arrows or broad heads, and I need a new Block.

Then there's my new Ford F-150. It sits very tall and I stand very short. I need a cargo bar to keep stuff from falling to the front of the bed and/or steps I can easily mount to get up into the bed, not an easy task anymore.
Seat covers. Rubber floor mats. Wait! maybe I should leave the new truck in the driveway?

We talk a lot about wind. I'm a gadget lover and would be ecstatic if I got a decent anemometer to carry to the stand. Flashlights are always good. No matter how many I have I can never find the right one when I need it, especially my headband light. I know you can't spend $150 on lights, but something here, something there. It ads up fast!

Oh! And all that base layer stuff mentioned above - YES! Find the best.

Great thread. I've been thinking about this for a few days and keep asking myself what I've bought or received for $150 or less that I absolutely love. 2 things come to mind. 1st is a pair of Muck Excursion boots. These are the ankle height boots that you simply slip your foot in without having to pull them on. I love them and wear them almost exclusively when I'm at the farm. I own several pair of Muck boots and these are my go to for knocking around the farm and hunting in anything other than freezing temps. They have a little heavier sole that is not a thin as the original Muckster ankle high boots. I'm getting my boys these for Christmas. They're only about 80 bucks so with the left over money I added a pair of chainsaw chaps and hard hat with the built in ear muffs. No one should crank a chainsaw without chaps, hard hat and ear mufffs.

My 2nd option would be a Silky Zubat hand saw. I love my Silky. Those can be had for less than $150 with change to spair...perhaps for a good pair of leather gloves cause you'll need the gloves using a Silky. Otherwise...stitches may be in your future if you make a mis-stroke with the hand saw.
 
So I broke the rules and spent more— and maybe broke a second rule and got something that I’d benefit from as well. X-farmer got my head spinning (no pun intended) with the anemometer idea) both my dad and I have about 12 weather apps on our phone. Where our property sits nothing is overly precise because of being remote.

I ended up getting a Davis Instruments weather station for our cabin (6250 model). It was double our limit but it was really cool. Seems to get fantastic reviews. Gives very accurate wind, rain, barometer, humidity, etc. It is solar powered and logs historical data.

Anyone have experience with it? My dad will love it (and so will I).

Duluth Trading's Shoreman vest and hooded jacket are both excellent for quiet, windproof layers. I got black so I xan wear them as outters in the blind if I want. They often run specials of 30 percent off and free shipping on $100 orders.

Getting this same quality gear in camo is way more expensive.

I live in the vest.
