House and Habitat build thread:

The fire in western part of state started in Oklahoma and now are saying killed 5 people so far counting 3 by Texas border. We are close to 200,000 acres and then have another big one north of Wichita

People dieing and losing homes just plain sucks.
What's going on north of Wichita? I looked at Wildfire and only saw stuff about out west.

Looking great cat! I just ordered 200 miscanthus giganteus rhizomes. Can't wait to see the benefits in a few years.
Cool. I planted some in pots (in the basement) to see how they grow and what they look like. The are shooting up fast! Going to be a neat plant.

Nature is waking up and signs of spring are appearing.

Doored in our storm shelter today. Probably should have been my first project when we moved in but somehow it kept getting pushed back.
The door is made of three layers, a box of screws, and a bottle of gorilla glue. 1.5 inches thick and heavy. The frame is anchored into concrete all the way around and it has a 12 inch thick cement cap. Hope to never need it!

Hail coming from about 8 different directions at once. Starting to think my fruit trees won't fair to well...

Great pictures! Looks like spring is springing...I think we are just a little further along because I have mowed once and need to mow again...If we get a few rains brushhogging season will start early... The door looks really good...Oak?

Hail bad enough to damage roofs and cars?

Thanks. It's oak that we cut and milled off the place. Really hard and heavy wood!

You guys are always a couple of weeks ahead. I have relation and friends at Tenkiller, Grand, and Tulsa and I travel down that way often, you guys start spring at least two weeks before we do. I always like to make that drive and see some blooms and green while we are still brown.

I didn't see any damage other than crap blown around at our place. Lots of trees and brush down in town when I drove through.

Just a few miles south of here at "Home 10" it looks like full blown summer. Everything is greener up and the mowing HAS to be done this week or I will have to Brushhog the yard

I am behind on so much stuff with those porch builds. I still have 275 seedlings to put in and hundreds of acorns to direct seed...

Lol. I'm in the same boat. I "could" mow but it isn't to the brushhog stage yet. Do you do a lot of business this time of yr?
I also have a couple of bags of acorns that need direct seeded.
For what it's worth, the porch looks great!

Usually have a couple of mow down the dead growth from last year jobs but I haven't done any yet because I have to change front axle seals in my Kubota. For both sides that's going to be another 8 hour job...
Thanks...Had to build a back porch too...have to save more $ for the back deck because taxes are due mid April

This is a picture before soffit was done...

That looks great. No natural cedar posts like on the front porch?
Having projects set due to funds isn't fun but I tend to do the same thing. I build a lot of my own stuff and have to wait sometimes for $$$ to come in to finish things. It's slower than hiring it done but it sure saves some money. Your place is looking great!

No natural logs on the back porch...I thought it might "Overdo" the concept since this porch is going to be incorporated into the back deck we are saving up for. The back deck will wrap right around into this porch and it will be 44 feet long and 22ft of it will be roofed and the other 1/2 won't. We want to be able to use the back deck rain or shine...

Thanks - I can hardly wait to see what the place looks like in 5/10 years...It's a lot of fun to improve things as you are doing on your place as well. I like how you utilize the resources off your place...

You know I always like you sunset pics Cat, but you might've outdone yourself on the lightning pics. Pretty awesome, and not easy to get such great pics. They actually make a sensor you can buy that attaches to the camera and senses lightning and triggers the camera. Most pro pics of lightning are done that way. Yours are just as good.
Place looks awesome as usual . Hope you never need the shelter.
