Hawggardville

Dicamba isn't very forgiving to apple trees or tomatoes.

Man... As good as they say Dicamba is, it sure has such horrible drift... My apple trees got hit last summer. Nearest field is 1/2 mile downhill to my East. Our predominate winds were SW. Didn't kill them, but they did nothing last year either...

A few from today plus a few from 1 of my cameras.
Arkcharm, the first crop on this tree. Hope I get it, it only made one this year.
Wilson June, we actually tasted one today. Very tart, but good. CAR is going to be an issue with it.
One of my favorite assistants checking out the winesap apples while avoiding a cotton spider.
Captain Davis apples, first crop on this one too.
Lastly, a few deer pics, a grey fox, and some weird guy in a hat. He has been in the sun to long I think.

A few more from today. My biggest ACCF chestnuts growing well. Still no burrs yet, but maybe next year.
Calloway crabs loaded up too.
We tied or broke several low records for the state this morning. Another great day to play in the hills.

Will you look at what I found last Saturday.
Me being allergic to bees meant a quick call to Chuck for help in getting them and picking up a hive.
These will make it up to the farm next spring if they make it through the winter.

I love the nostalgia of daffodils and often wonder, if left alone, how many decades they would continue to bloom. The buildings of a long-forgotten homestead may be gone but you can always spot them with the daffodils. It's 7 miles of secluded dirt road from my farm to the county line of the adjoining county. I love taking a ride this time of year just to see the daffodils on abandoned homesteads along the dirt road.

I couldn't agree more! No idea on who planted all of these, but they did us a favor without even knowing it.

A few random farm pics.
AU Super chestnut graft, made 5 of these.
A shot of a very calm pond followed by a new beaver that found it.
Chuck working our new bee hives and young Beach apples.
Also the only girl in the lot graduated high school!

Thinking of how familiar Chuck is with this stand, naturally, I placed this trap in the tree its strapped to.
Had to wait till after dark so all the bees were back in the box to move them.
We'll get them in a permanent hive Sunday afternoon.

What started as a few trees for deer turned into around 100.
May as well make cider.
The old mill is in decent shape mechanically, but a overhaul of the wood is in order.
Chuck and I have around 150 chestnuts potted up for a mass planting this fall.
Apples, chestnuts, cider, and honey
I may have to set up a roadside stand.
