Had a great evening. I planned to walk in around 11:30 and sit until dark in a proven stand in our creek bottom. Has been slow overall but lately two days showed fawns were on their own and the cold front with high pressure had me excited.
On my long walk to the stand I bumped a 3yr old and two does. Crap! Then got about 100 yards from stand and took a breather (after 1/2 mile walk) to get settled, jacket on, and ready to climb up tree. I’m in belly of the beast and the less commotion once I get to stand the better so I get settled before I get there so I can climb up.
While putting jacket on a 2yr old chased a doe in a circle around me while I sat up in a tree. I waited until they cleared and b-lined it to stand.
Not 1 minute after I got bow pulled up to stand I saw a good deer about 120 yrds coming from the North. He checked a scrape and bedded 80 yards from me.
He didn’t move for nearly 2 hours until another buck chased a doe through the river bottom.
He got up and they squared off. The doe walked back to North and they followed. I blew my Vector grunt (thanks Vince) about 5 quick burst and both deer turned and came in. I shot at 30 yards. Double lung and we found him about 100 yrds. Great evening.
Best part is Ingot to share it with my dad! A few pics:
