I remember something in the pics of that holler that lots of people didn't notice - a patch of jewel weed. So he is starting out with one of the best late summer food plots in the world. So, all is not bad!
Jewel weed is a jewel here as well Native. There is a bed of it 60 yards in from the 40 acre alfalfa field bordering us. During bow season which is now the jewel weed gets hit every afternoon a full two hours before they dare venture out into the alfalfa field. And the drier everything else is the more they hit the jewel weed. I'll bet Geo got excited when he saw the jewel weed.
No elk, but what a wonderful place to enjoy a hunt.
Good luck G!

Keep at it Geo; You are close, any day now or even any second now! Give it all you have; it's within your reach. Giant elks, look out!
Geo, none of us win every day but you do get your share of winning days and not by luck. Thanks guys. Sorry to say Dave but I completely whimped out the last day of my elk season.
I was out this morning for a buck mule deer, with a steady, brisk wind I didn't see a deer. I did see another hunter numb nuttin through where the deer like to bed.
