8 hours on the river seems to go by much quicker than 8 hours in the shop.

When Dan and I came out the other day we met a friend of mine from town who was just going in. He caught a 2 1/2lb 19" rainbow. There were some big fishes trying to jump up the water fall.

That's how a textbook throw n mow should look folks. New sprouts peeking through a good ground cover of straw. And fall plots are always dependent on rain... But that nice layer of mulch will preserve moisture big time. I predict a nice plot here.

More shootin and fishin.

Hornady EDL-X, the 2 on the left were my fault

At 250 my 3 shot groups were about 5" groups low and left. I just watched Randy Newberg dial in his CDS and drop a bull elk at 400 yards with his .308. I have my custom cap ordered and plan on setting a 200yd zero and practicing using the dial. My pack was mostly fluff and I need to sturdy up my rest. This is why we practice. I'm getting better groups with my bow at 60 yards.

50 yards standing, I'm good.

A different stretch of creek yesterday, a bit turbid from rains.

A hand full of dinks (below). I did catch a couple for the pan that ended back in the water.

Hank is always looking for a high spot mid stream from which to hunt squirrels.

I have a bike

but this wasn't exactly a bike trail.

Lots of food up the burns.

The chainsaws didn't make it all of the way to the ridge top, I didn't either.

What dropped this terd?

Looks like a downhill bike. You need to take those ski lifts up and just balls out it to the bottom! Uphill is work...and no fun but I know you are more of an exercise freak than I am...

After the road ended I took the bike in a few miles. Hats off to the Master Gardener.

The blue grouse are crazy up here.

I found a small herd worth of fresh elk tracks and saw a small herd of mule deer does with fawns.

It didn't take long to see the danger on the down hill so I walked it.

But what to make of this mess?

I'm looking for the same things that I used to look for, food, water, and security.

Vegetables won't grow at this altitude in unfiltered sun but I did manage some greens (rape) in my front yard garden. I fry the greens in bacon grease, or I should say did fry.

Yesterdays mountain adventure took us over a familiar trail above our favorite fishing hole

into new ground. Good Mule deer hunting starts 2 miles in.

Hank grew impatient at our first creek crossing as I sat under spruce and waited out a rain cloud.

My goal was to check out perpendicular basins.

I left my wading slippers on after my first crossing which proved to be a good decision.

When I came to the front door of the basin that I was most curious about

my initial thought was this is the roughest damn property, no way in hell. Funny thing is that is exactly what I said about my Iowa property the fist time laying eyes on it, hm.
