Dugout

Good luck! Looks like lots of action even if they arent giants. I am getting bobcat pics far too often these days. Be glad when i can at least shoot one.

This is my cousin with his first deer. He has never hunted before in his life. I set him up on some public ground down the road from the farm. He saw 8 deer in 3 sits. Killed his first deer on his first sit ever with a bow! He was pretty mouthy after that. Today he got to experience the low of wounding his first deer without a recovery. The 3 blade rage did its job very well on first one. I think he was high and in shoulder on the second one. He learned a lot this weekend. I am thinking of retiring after he pays me scouting, tracking, campsite, and butchering fees. I love helping new hunters.

Looks like you got a great spot all picked out there.

As for your cousin....it's funny how "easy" it is for some when they have a lot of "luck" early. I assume you helped him pick the spot and where to put the stand and all that other "trivial" stuff that led to his success. Sure he made the shot, but we all know having the right spot is a big part of it as well. When my boy gets mouthy I tell him to go hang his own stand and the like on a different place and see just how good he is......he shut's up pretty quickly then! My brother killed a monster buck his first time deer hunting and went on and on about how "easy" it was and how I must suck at it because I didn't have a big one yet. Nearly a decade later - he sings a different tune. He hasn't shot anything that has weighted over 150 lbs since.....karma is a great thing some times!!! Glad to see a new hunter having success - he looks pretty pleased in the photo.

Congrats to your cousin! Still not easy to hold it together for that first shot. Or any other shot in my case.
Never been a fan of expandables, but i wont get on that stump in your thread. :D
Beautiful property. Good luck!

I agree on the expandables. I blame my lack of a bow kill on them. I lost 3 bucks in 2 years with them. I will say that when they do work; they leave a mean hole.

Lucky cousin indeed! Wow. Should be a great morning to hunt tomorrow. I will be out there.

Well the good news is that my big 10 showed up. The bad news is that the spot on his side last year was an injury. He is a big old dude. My neighbor to the north sees him regularly, but I am yet to lay eyes on him.

Glad to see you connected with your bow. Lots of weird things can happen and with limited range to boot it doesn't take much for a situation to slip thru your fingers. Gonna be a cold start to the mornings this weekend for the gun opener - may be just what you need to get a swing at that big dude!
