Double A Farm NE Ohio

It’s fun to watch all the critters in the back end of my property away from the road and other signs of human intrusion. They are always so relaxed and barely pay me any mind.

They have a goat path worn down to the trophy rock. I had to replace it with a new one already this year.

Giant miscanthus is taking off and I got all my mowing done for the spring. Just need to weed whack and gly around the trees and fertilize them.

Almost forgot to post these for 3C. Best Memorial Day feast yet. My Weber twins were working hard that day. Had to snap pictures quick before my daughters made short work of those crab legs. Rounded out with the wife’s home made corn bread & coleslaw.

Stopped by the farm today to get an estimate on getting an 1100 foot, crowned, dirt road dozed down my rutted and mucky power line so I can reach the back field year round with no issues. $95 an hour with a 4 hour minimum. Seems reasonable. Shouldn’t take long, it’s just grass, weeds and tiny saplings over fairly flat ground. No major clearing just blade work.

Anyway, I was happy to see my best corn rows to date.

Your place looks great! Pretty cool to have a blank canvass to work with. I love our spot in the mountains but there are some real advantages to flat ground!
 
Everything looking great as usual on your place. It won't be any time until that alfalfa is knee high and full of deer. Thanks for the good update.

Thank you. There are pros and cons to both for sure. I’m fortunate to have some flat, fertile, rock-less fields but I’m short on terrain features and funnels.

Thanks NH. I’m looking forward to seeing the attraction power. First time I ever planted a pure stand and thankfully it’s RR so maintenance should be a breeze.
 
Weasel...Always enjoy catching up on your thread. Place looks great! And that brisket looks righteous! I'm headed to the farm this afternoon and will be firing up the Traeger bout midnight for a butt cook to enjoy tomorrow afternoon with the crew.
 
Corn all germinating nicely, big stress relief worrying if the planter depth was right, fertilizer costs, etc.

My have you been busy! I think we will be thrilled with the new plan once everything matures. Just curious, how do you like the plotters choice? Also, is that a JD650?

I really like the Kasco Plotter’s Choice. It belongs to a friend of mine who has been an amazing habitat mentor to me. He was kind enough to let me borrow the planter. He also helped me with all the fertilizer calculations as well and used his connections in the ag business to get the fert and RR alfalfa for me.

Hmmm, that’s a good question. My planting was all on flat ground. I would think as long as it wasn’t too steep and you could keep even ground pressure on the 3 point you’d be ok.
