I saw a street CC tree do the same last week.Has anyone ever experienced or heard of Chestnuts blooming twice in a year? Thoughts?
Matt
I had the same thing happen with one of my AU Buck IV last year. I attributed it to being a happy little tree.
I saw a street CC tree do the same last week.
I asked a chestnut buddy about it and had this exchange.
">Passed a chinese shestnut on the street a minute ago that was in
>bloom. Seems strange this late in the year.
Frost. It had to try again. Mine are blooming now too, hybrids and pure AC's
>Didn't know that. Will they still produce nuts?
yes, smaller nuts, but viable. Also, if a tree has no pollinator, it
will try again in the fall in a good year."

"Vigorous chestnut trees in areas with long growing seasons will frequently do it. That's my situation. In other cases, trees that have had some type of damage early in the year will play catch-up."

Getting ripe.
It's getting pretty late already. Almost October.
