90 Acres Northern New York

Radishes are the best early draw in our brassica plots without a doubt![/

I think I have more brassica than I need. The stuff doesn’t appear to be getting browsed very heavily. It’s had a couple of good freezer, and now with the warm temps, it’s beginning to get that rotting smell.

Did you plant your radishes in a mix? We plant them with purple tops and rape. The purple tops handle the cold much better than the radishes.

My hunting buddy found this skull on a bordering property is some deep hardwoods recently while searching for a wounded buck. Could it be from a pig ?

I’ve never heard of wild pigs in our area, however prior to their being banned, there was a high fence shooting operation next to me that had Eurasian boar.

Thanks -

I’m shipping the two lower front teeth from my harvest to these folks.

I hope he’s not over 2 1/2.

Anyone else used their services ?

21/2? In my area, that would most likely be a 41/2 year old. Of course, if your soils are notably better, he could be younger.

I’ve never had one aged before, so I’m eager to see the results.

I scored him, and have him at 85” if I did it correctly.

Beam lengths + tine lengths + circumferences = score.

Is that correct ?

There were a couple of bucks taken by the neighboring land owner about 20 years ago. I believe the are in the 120” range. They were never aged, but are what I hope a 3-4 yr old buck would be from this area.

I still have 9 cameras out. Since early Nov, have no pictures of mature bucks.

I’ll probably leave the Browning cameras out until the lithium batteries go belly up. Hopefully I’ll get some matures after season ends.

Don’t forget inside spread.

Don’t forget inside spread...inside spread can only be = to or less than longest main beam..you get 4 circumferences per side no matter how many points...

I guess that’s a technicality for smaller deer right? Because I’m having a hard time imagining a deer with an 18 inch spread but not 20+ inches of main beam. But I’ve been wrong before.

Randy, I’ve taken a 61/2 year old that only went 115 and a 51/2 year old just over
107. It takes genetics and nutrition. I’m working hard to fix the nutrition, but the genetics thing is completely another matter. There are studies that suggest a couple generations of good nutrition will improve the potential 15 -18 points but that’s it. I do have some 130s deer but haven’t been able to get my hands on them yet.

You measure the main beam from the base out. G1 (brow tine), G2, G3 on each side. Inside spread and circumference (H1 (base), H2 (between G1 and G2), H3 (between G2 and G3), and H4 (between G3 and end of main beam on a 8ptr or G4).

So just a quick guess
Right 3+6+7+19+4+4+3+3=40”
Left 3+6+7+1+19+4+4+3+3=41”
IS=16”.

Gross score 97” +/- 10, but you get the idea.
