    Thoughts on Osage orange/hedge

This year I'm also going to use a dibble bar for the bare roots. Last year I just put the plums in with a spade. It seems like the dibble bar might save some labor.

    Thoughts on Osage orange/hedge

I'm starting to think I might have treeplanting/shrub planting problem. I just ordered 25 more American plum bare roots and 25 Osage Orange bare roots from the Kansas forest service. I had good luck with the plums last year, the ones that didn't get flooded out in spring. The Osage Orange...

Is both tree tubes and a cage needed?

Going to be putting in some apple trees in, is it wise to to use both tubes and a cage around them. Please correct if I am wrong on this the tube is to make the tree grow up and the cage would protection against animals.

    Live from the stand 2016!

Well it has rained lightly on and off today. It's 56 with a light north wind and overcast. Seen a doe and a spike up moving around 11:30 as I was checking cameras. Decided to sit from 12:30 to dark. This is the first day I have hunted that it actually feels cool and that I need more then a...

    Live from the stand 2016!

Had some success. My son took his first deer at about 18:00 last night. His first shot was at 28 yards and hit a little back. He was able to get in a second arrow at 40 yards. We were both jacked up. It was the first deer either of us have taken in archery season. Sent from my iPhone using...

    Live from the stand 2016!

It looking like another record heat day in Kansas. I am having coffee in the blind and on my phone. South wind and sixty degrees. A cool front is supposed to move in this afternoon. I don't know why they are calling it a cool front. It will still be 5-10 degrees warming then normal. I hate this...

    Hot weather hunting...BLAH!

Anyone having much luck with morning hunts? I am going out this weekend and going to hunt both mornings. Mainly because the MIL is staying at my house. This October is going down as one of the hottest for Kansas. It has been about 10 degrees hotter then normal and I am sick of it.

Turkey hunt turns into near deer hunting disaster.

They seem to have the pecking order worked out between the two. That would've been something to see. Also kind of made me wonder about all the scent control, camo and everything else. I was down there blue jeans, work boots, and a Royals hat only came a piece of camo clothing I had on was a...

Turkey hunt turns into near deer hunting disaster.

From here on out I'm done with the turkeys and unless it's going to be a turkey with a crossbow. Going to head back in an hour or two and set up a second blind. Two blinds on 15 acres seems like a bit much but I guess they don't do any good sitting in my closet either.

Turkey hunt turns into near deer hunting disaster.

There is a small 15 acre piece of Creekbottom that I have permission to hunt on that's very near my home. While getting the kids to school this morning heard some turkey activity in that area so I thought I still have a turkey tag so I will go see what I can do. I make it in the property...

    Finally some bucks showing up.

Here's a close up of this one. Other pic 10/9 21:54. From the other picture it seems like he has a pretty good size neck on him I'm terrible at aging deer. I have went back-and-forth on if he's an older deer with a declining rack or younger deer with odd growth this year year. Sent from my...

    Finally some bucks showing up.

Yeah I kinda have some oddballs this year. Nothing wrong with a perfect 8 or 10 point , But I'm hoping I can close the deal on one of those with a bit more character. Just something different.

    Kansas Deer Season?

Well it seems the rest of the week is going to be in the mid 90s. Muzzleloader season closes Sunday I think this heat wave will just about close it out for me. I might go look at some walking hunting areas that look promising. Just a walk-through in the morning to get out and enjoy the cool...

    Kansas opener!

I went out from 5:00 to 8:30. I had six does come in ranging from 15 to 30 yards. They all looked good and healthy. Hopefully they start bring their boyfriends soon.
