Youth hunts

Let's brag on the kids here. Took my daughter out on her last youth hunt this morning . Youth season is my favorite time to hunt. Much more satisfying hunting with the kids.

Paige turns 16 next year , she's been hunting since she was 10 and has killed some does but hasn't gotten on a buck yet. Had let several small bucks pass through the years . Got in the stand at 7 this morning and at 715 saw a deer 300 yards away with his head in a tree, gave a long grunt followed by several short grunts. The buck immediately turned and started walking to us, about half way across the field it broke into a sprint . Got to 40 yards and another grunt stopped it. Paige squeezed the trigger on the 25-06 and down he went! he was a young deer but I just couldn't tell her not to shoot. Got the taxidermist called!

Side note , it's been 80 degrees all weekend but I've seen alot of pre rut activity if we get a cold spell it could be good for firearms season on the 12th 20161030_074013.jpg

wow--congrats to Paige. One mighty fine deer right there. I have a few on the wall that won't match up to that brute. I think anyone would be proud to hang that boy on the wall.

good job pops!

That is awesome. I love taking my kids hunting. I remember their successful hunts as clearly as I remember my own. I have taken 2 kids thus far for their first deer and I am working on a third. The excitement that you see in the kids is what hunting is all about. We see all the horn porn on TV and the like and the simplicity of hunting and the simple joys of it just come to the surface when hunting with kids.

Couldn't have said it better, the excitement of a kid getting their first deer , or even seeing a deer, or turkey in the wild is the greatest reward .

Any youth season deer is a trophy but that's a nice buck for s.w. Missouri.
I hunted Christian county with my 13 year old. We only saw 4 deer in 2 days. Terribly hot and I felt like that slowed the day time action for us. Glad it worked out for your daughter. Maybe I need to move to Stone county.

That buck was actually taken in taney county, just north of Branson on a piece of land my grandpa was born and raised on. we've killed alot of good deer on that property , I've got trail cam pics of nice deer on my 120 acres in stone county that we've been bow hunting , but we always rifle hunt at grandpa's . my wife says it's silly to drive 40 minutes to kill a deer when I can just walk out the back door, but I just can't help but to go "home" where I learned to hunt and where I've taught my 3 kids to hunt.

I think that's great! I wish I had that kind of connection to my land. I'm doing what I can to make sure my kids do though, Big bucks or not !

I try to teach my kids it's about the hunt, although we like to hunt big bucks we don't make it a competition . They are very competitive in sports and hunting is our way to get away . they all get real excited when one of their siblings gets any deer. big buck or small doe doesn't matter .
