"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

We have some decent shots at rain next week so I decided to get the plot here on the hollow ready. It has been a clover plot for years but the heat and drought finally did it in so I decided to work the ground up and totally replant...this plot is not sprayed...it is dead because of the heat!

Trail cams finally got a couple decent ones...lots of does have moved in so buck sightings on cam are much less...

Once had a mean cow that we loaded to get to auction. Had not had a pitchfork in hand I’m sure she would have been murderer. Fork to the nose and rear was a lifesaver. Unruly cows have no purpose ina herd.
Nice buck pics as usual.

I was out with the cows yesterday while I was doing more clearing and brush building and I was enjoying the calmness of the herd. They have put on a bunch of weight in the past 3 weeks and my next challenge is weaning off 3 big heifer calves before the bred momma has the next calf. Calm is nice...

Lots of good antler growth for a dry year.

G

These deer literally just showed up after being gone for months. I have no food for them as I haven’t been feeding and my plots were totally wiped. Hope they keep coming around...

Not feeding this yr, or just haven't fed yet this year? I wonder if these bucks showing up remember yrs past?

Do you have pens or paddocks for weaning? My dad let's his calves wean naturally. Mom knows when it's time to switch out babies. The FIL pulls them off and pens them up on the other side of the place so momma and babies can't see or hear each other. Both ways works.

I tried 100lbs in a feeder back in Early July and never got a buck picture...just lots of does so I nixed that...I will probably try again around mid September. I have 2 paddocks right now with one being 12 acres and the other being 19 acres. The 19 acre paddock will be split into 2 paddocks this winter like it used to be until the fence fell into disarray over the years. I need to replace about 100 yards of fence and build a pond to have water in all 3 paddocks.

Well our 12 days of rain forecast we had switched to 1.5 days but only 50% chance...I knew it would because I seeded today over on our other place...

The forecast we had when I planted our plots...look at all those rain days!

The forecast we now have right after planting the plots...looks like maybe just enough maybe to germinate seed and then hot and no rain there one out...farmers life...

Tahlequah and Moody is where the farms are. The forecast is the same for both as there is just a few miles difference...

Same here Okie. Only you’ve gotten some rains recently that we never got. :(

Well, no rain for well over a month has taken its toll. We are feeding hay as pasture is just dirt. I invested in liquid feed as well for protein intake and between those 2 steps the cattle are still doing ok. Our back pond is very low and if we don’t get rain within the next couple of weeks will probably be dry because of evaporation and the cattle intake so I started rehabbing it yesterday. The pond bank was completely overgrown with trees and briars. Our 100% chance of rain for last night ended up being zero...

Look close at him...he was shot in September before he lost his velvet and he is still in full velvet and weighs about 70 lbs and racked with infection...I hate poachers:(

Grandson and I moved the cattle into the burned up pasture where I am rehabbing the pond. Not much available to them in there but there may be a couple days forage if they look...

That's some good pond work Okie! Sorry your pasture is burned up. Time to start feeding. I know many who have been hauling water for quite some time now. :(
