Will report back tonight. I went with 1 T Zataran’s because it’s what I had and I’m trying to cut back on salt. Will season each bowl with more if necessary. Smells great already!

Turned out good! Not as thick as I thought. Probably would have been better in the oven for that. Flavors were great! I recommend!

Weekender, the very few black bears we have are off limits to us. I had an employee whose father in law had a place in Arkansas where they had bears. He killed one and I got to eat a little of it, and it was good. I always wanted to bowhunt them but I just never got around to it. Damned work got in the way !

I’ve never killed one either. I’ve had tags while hunting other species in AK and always have a tag in NC but the opportunity hasn’t presented itself. Based on my anecdotal cell cam data, I’d say the population is increasing in western NC. It’s probably a matter of time before our paths meet during hunting season.

I have a neighbor that’s given me meat twice. He’s not big into bear meat (lucky me) but lives in NC and stumbles into one every few seasons.

From what I’ve read, there are some hefty bears in NC.

Pan fried black bear steaks tonight (think chicken fried steak). Very popular with our kiddos. It cracks me up how easily they’ll shovel something like black bear and venison down but be relatively picky eaters otherwise.
