Thanks. I do have other places I can hunt, but I think everyone knows that you get attached to a place after a few years. Especially when there’s a chance to potentially buy it.
It is what it is though.. just have to see how it plays out.

Congrats on another Nice Deer! Feels great, but then sad that you have tagged out at the same time. How would you compare the age of the 2 deers you killed this year? I know my age class here near the beach is very different from other parts of the state. Just wondering how you would age and guess the weight of your 2 deer.

I haven’t looked at the teeth on this one yet, but he was a smaller bodied deer. The 6pnt was 4yrs old & 150-160lbs field dressed.But he had layers of fat on him.
This one was pretty lean once I got him skinned.I would estimate 130lbs field dressed. Looking at him closer, I would say he’s 3/4yrs old.

Thats what I thought as well. After 4 years on this farm and having lots of trail cams images, i realized what I originally thought of as 2.5 year old deer here, was actually 3.5 year old deer when looking at the antlers and body size. It was counter intuitive to the deer I grew up with and what you see on here and read online,where people over estimate age.

Right. Yeah these coastal plains deer rarely have the size of central or north NC deer. Although there are always exceptions .

So we closed out our 2018 deer season without tagging anything else— with a baby & work I just got back down this weekend.
On the bright side, According to the LO, looks like the offer that was made was a bust.. he thinks it was either a potential drug enterprise or illegal immigration setup, due to the person that contacted him. So I’ve been given the go ahead for our winter plans.
Was out Saturday trying to thin a couple acre block on the N side, also did some scouting. Feeling good about this year, going to shift some stands.
This is along the N boundary, we have a stand 2-250 yards behind this area, & I noticed that the deer seemed to be shifting N towards the creek. Found a crossing & tracks & bedding along this area. We will be slipping a stand about a 100yrds closer, right between 2 huge oaks.
This is an update of the area we cut early ‘18. First time I have been in here since last spring. alittle disappointed that there isn’t more green sprouting, did see alittle poking through, only thing I can figure is either it’s not getting enough sunlight or the leaf litter is just too thick right now.
This pic was taken around 1PM, can definitely see the sunlight hitting the ground.esp compared to a few of the background areas.

Well guys, time to bring this chapter to a close. Went out to the property about 2 weeks ago & was surprised to see For Sale signs at the gate. Long story short, the owner had decided to sell & move on, but "forgot" to mention it to me. Was able to talk with the new owner & will be retrieving my stands & equipment.
