Tree tag idea

"Years ago, 30+, I visited Longwood Gardens while in graduate school. I was struck by the metal identification tags they had on their trees. The tags were rectangular and had two holes; one to the left of the identification data and another to the right. The head of the screw was flush to the tag and a spring was between the tree trunk and the tag. The springs would hold the tags firmly in place. As the tree grew the screw could be backed out. (My guess is that was a rarely done task.) The tags, screws, and springs were all brass, Time has marched on and things have changed.

I am not sure who specifically to thank for providing me with these pictures. The facebook staff of Longwood Gardens is very helpful."
