Trail Camera Expanding Strap

Looking for a strap to hang my camera that automatically expands as say the tree grows. Similar to neck collars they put on deer.

I'm finding interesting use for my old trail cameras that no longer work having problems with neighbors trespassing so I am putting old cameras along property lines as decoys so they might think twice that I got eyes everywhere. But I want to just leave them out and not think about them for few years so they grow with the trees they are on.

Any ideas or products?

I use a screw in mount to the tree. Also, I have paracord on a couple of mine in place of straps. You can leave them loose a little like a necklace.

When I decided to place cameras in fixed positions so I could trend data year after year, I quickly realized trees were not a good option. I usually ended up putting in posts. Since my cams were RF with solar panels, I needed a place to hang the antenna and solar panels anyway.

There were a few places where large trees were in ideal places. I used hanger bolts that are wood screw thread on one end and machine threads on the other. I put the wood screw end into the tree and then used the machine screws to attach a bracket for the camera or other support equipment. With a large tree, it would take many years for a few inches of diameter growth to be enough to hit the bracket.

If you do end up using strap, which are often done with folded sections lightly stitched together, keep in mind that animals like racoons will climb on cameras and may cause the threading to break prematurely.

Best of luck!

A regular black bungee cord might be the solution you are looking for, just by several different lengths to custom fit every tree.
If he is looking to deal with tree growth, I presume the cams will be on the tree for a very long time and a bungee cord won't last.

You're overthinking it. A higher quality bungee cord with a woven outer coating will last quite a few years. Or a silicone stretch strap for more longevity

I must buy cheap bungee cords. I use them on my equipment trailer that sits outdoors. After about 2 or 3 years, they lose their elasticity and droop. Unless you are talking quite small trees that will cause false alarms with a camera, it takes trees more years to put on enough growth to be an issue which made me think he is talking about a longer term situation.
